Mike Snody Custom ?

Does anybody have a Mike Snody Custom? He is a knifemaker that also does straights. Can someone post any pictures of his straight razors?

I didn't know he made a straight.
I've never seen one and it's hard for me to believe that if he made them, he wouldn't be "pimping" them....

ha. that is true he is flamboyant with those golden teeth and $800 G's worth of gold youtube videos

In one of those videos he mentioned that he makes anything from "machetes to straights" so I was wandering how his straights look like because I could not find anything on the net

I don't think he has made straights. Tom Krein is making a straight now and a few should be available soon. I don't think I have seen anything that Snody has made that appeals to me, dislike the pimpage and the dollar signs on everything.

It will be nice to see what Tom comes up with. I like his style.

I've got to say, give the man props or as Mike says, "big respect" , he has made it. Although I don't like the Pimp style he claims, he does some good work. I have never seen a straight by him, maybe I'll ask him later.

Yep I love Toms knives. He said they would be ready not too long after the Usual Suspect show in Vegas. I REALLY want one but don't know if I can swing it.

He does nice work, I just don't like the style of his knives.

I have one of his Zombie Boss blades but never thought to try to shave with it until now. But first up a higonokami. I know, wrong tool, insane, etc.

Dollar signs, Gucci, and freaking paracord on everything.

seriously.
I've never heard of the guy before this thread, but looked up his stuff now. Some nice looking blades, some kinda odd, some just plain boring......but really, paracord wrapped handle kitchen knives??

There was one knife I would've considered giving a chance, if it had a real handle

He has a pretty big following on the custom knife forums. I like his shanks. Those are probably what you were calling plain would be my guess.

That is right and he has bricks of precious metals to show for it. Got to respect that! Never was a fan of his work though. Looks like he did only a few if any razors.

Speaking of custom knife makers anyone familiar with Kirby Lambert. I like his work a lot and looks like he has a razor

This would be my only advice.
If you want a custom straight razor look for guys that use them and not just make them.
I'm not saying someone can't make one and not be a user. But it's my option you are going to see more and more knife makers decide to test the water in the straight market. Not so much because they enjoy using them but because there's not as much competition.
I don't think that is a completely bad thing. I just think you'll see more then a few jump in to try and make a quick buck, having very little knowledge of how one should feel and work.
If your looking to buy a custom straight, I'll be happy to email you a list of guys that have made more then a few straights and have used them longer then they have been making them.

I was looking just at his gallery site, not much on there, I don't know if I saw what you're calling a shank.....the Boss is what I was calling boring, not that there's anything wrong with it, it just doesn't have anything that grabs my attention is all. Whereas the Boss Elite looks identical except for one additional grind to taper the spine, and suddenly it's found some personality :)

Google images returned a lot more interesting pictures, particularly like that Urban Zombie Hunter

These could be the best knives ever made, hell he could be the nicest guy on the planet and this is just his personna, I don't know......but if I'm totally honest, I probably never will either. The attitude around it all will go a long ways towards keeping me from finding out.
I can't tell you how put off I am by the combination of design and naming of the "Ghetto Guillotine". Is it necessary to give the mental image that if you punch hard enough a few times that you can actually decapitate someone? And the gang banger types pointing guns at the camera with their faces covered by bandanas at the beginning and end of that video was a.......nice touch?
Or the slogan used to advertise the Crisis Card of "Saving lives daily in ghettos across America", suggesting putting the blade forward as a punching tool so you can "just go ghetto on 'em", instructing us on how to either do permanent tendon damage or kill someone with it.....then saying 'oh, and it can also be used as an emergency potato peeler, fish scaler or beer bottle opener' :glare:
I understand the point of needing a defensive weapon, I own probably too many knives, carry one every day and have spent plenty of time in some really shady areas (though I've been lucky enough to never have gotten to the point of needing it).....but advertising about how the teeth are there to tear flesh, and hooks to rip when you pull back? That's no longer about defense, and in my humble opinion it's extremely poor form for anyone selling any weapon to advertise it in such an offensive, rather than defensive, manner.

Sorry for the long rant, this is honestly the first time I've ever found myself on this side of any discussion involving knives! And I don't even know why it bothered me so much in comparison to some of the other products and sellers that are out there (including ones I've owned). But really, 4 videos and a handful of posts by this guy actually turned my stomach. I should've stopped at the cool pictures

Anyway, this is just my personal opinion of the "face of the company". If anyone is actually still reading at this point please understand that this is in no way intended as a review of any of the products or service, nor is it intended to influence anyone in any way.
