Micromatic Question

Hello all.. I decided to register after being a lurker for a long while.... I have a question. I currently use an old Gem Micromatic open comb to shave the forest known as my beard. I love this thing and would never switch to anything else (i also have a couple of DE razors but the blades seem to flex to much under my beard). I wanted to find out if any one has had experience using SE PTFE coated blades from medical supply sites like tedpella? I could get 200 blades for about $35 but i know that they are not cut exactly the same as the store bought blades and i did not want to sink that much money into useless blades. Any advice would be appreciated.

The GEM PTFE blades are wonderful in SE razors. My go to SE blade. In fact, today's shave was with a 1924 Ever-Ready loaded with the GEM blade.

They are great blades for shaving even though they say "For Industrial Use Only". I use them all the time in my GEM Open Comb Micro Matic and get some really close shaves. This combination is my favor SE combo so far.

AFAIK, all the "GEM" stamped PTFE-coated stainless steel blades are the same, regardless of where they were bought. They're all made by ASR. They're good blades. They last a long time an offer smooth shaves. (Full disclosure, I actually prefer the carbon steel blades but find blade maintenance a PITA.)

If you think the MMOC is good, you should try a 1912. :thumbup1:

Welcome to B&B

I have about 1,000 of them. They are fantastic SE shaving baldes.

If you have not already done so, stop into the Hall of Fame and tell everyone a little about yourself

I bought some recently and really like them. I've taken to stropping the blade on my forearm (three times each side) before the first use. They are a lot easier for me to deal with than the carbon steel ones because I don't have to dry off the blade after use, just blow off the excess water.
