Merz Apothecary in Palmer Hilton downtown Chicago

nice store in downtown chicago. previoulsy have been to the one in lincoln square. very good selection for wetshavers. got to sample penhaligons, trumpers, and other wetshaver ones.

blenheim bouquet smells good but kinda lemon ball so didnt buy.
i think the trumpers sandalwood is AMAZING..I have sample and forgot how good it was!

It is nice to have a shop that carries a good selection near by. The one in my town (not Merz) is still not reopened after their move. Hoping to see them open by the first of next month

Great store. I really like that they have every Pinaud AS available to try. I try to go in about every 2 weeks, it's a great test of my sabaticallian promise. It's also in a triangle of AD's. Iwan Ries (for the Brown Leaf) and Utrecht Art Supply (for the Nib) are right around the corner on Wabash.

fyi i saw sign yesterday saying Utrecht is going to merge w the Blick stores nearby.

They also had some rare stuff at Merz and stuff I've never heard of like Maroma (cedar lavender smells good but not for me)

Yup. I work on the same block, on the other side. When I get bored, I walk over and see what I've missed. It's too easy to spend $15 on some soap I hadn't noticed before, so I'm getting a bit of a pile of them. :-(

So happy I just stumbled upon this thread! I'll be right down the street from there tomorrow, never even knew it was there! Will definitely have to stop by and see what I can get my hands on :)

Just came back from Merz, picked up some Trumper's Spanish Leather and Clubman Musk... there was so much to choose from I basically had to spin around with my eyes closed and point to something to figure out what I should buy. can't wait to go back!

I live close to the Lincoln Sq store and I have to basically run in and out when getting blades. It's an inverse relationship between amount of time spent in the store and impulse buying!

I'm going to be in Chicago again in June. I've only been to the Lincoln Square one. Is it worth a trip to the downtown locatoin too? What are the differences?

Similar. I don't think warrants separate trip.

If you want to come and see the Palmer House or be in the Loop, then the downtown location warrants a trip. If not, then the LS location is the only one you need. IMO, the Palmer House is worth it. Go inside the hotel, get a drink and stare at the ceiling and try and process all you just saw at Merz. Good times!

For those of you visiting Chicago be sure to visit the Truefitt & Hill store in the 900 North Michigan Shops. They have an outstanding selection of T&H, Penhaligon's, Floris, Castle Forbes, Trumpers and many other brands of creams, soaps, bath soaps, brushes, razors etc. They also have a full service barber on location.
