Merkur Slant Blade Alignment

I really love the way this razor shaves but I hate the way the blade fits into the head. I literally have to manually align the blade exposure so it's even on both sides when I put in a new blade. Are all the Merkur slants this way or is mine out of tolerance? Is there a fix or do I just have to live with it?

someone posted on here a simple method which I use on my Hoffritz slant - hold/lift the ends of the blade while you tighten with the other hand, it helps centre it (I use thumb and middle finger at opposite ends and 'push' on the cap with my index finger). works for me, ymmv.

Not sure, as mine is fine just the way it arrived. I'd contact the customer support at Merkur just to be sure. I'm sure they will answer your question.

Slants are known for that. There is a post here somewhere that says a woman from Mekur said to just put the blade in and tighten it up. You'll get as many people who agree, as not. When I first got mine, I was in the "adjust with your fingers camp." Now I just pop it in and tighten it up, unless it's really off.

Enjoy, the slant is a good razor.

OH HELL! I've just bitten the bullet, and ordered one from West Coast, and blow me if this isn't the first slightly negative post I have read about them. Just my luck.

Mind you, I have been wanting to try one for a few months now, so I will reserve judgement until I have.

I've been using my 39C for a couple of weeks now and have really enjoyed it. I wouldn't be too worried Brew – as others had said above, if you place the cap on a table and hold the blade against the cap while screwing everything together, the blade settles in place just fine. After figuring that out, it's been smooth sailing.

My 12C (open comb, same handle as the 39) has the same amount of play in the blade when it's set in the cap. I guess it's just a quirk of at least some Merkur models.

I've posted this elsewhere. I would never have come up with this myself. Advice from Barbasol about how to load their razors and get proper blade alignment.

When I got my first slant, I too was concerned about the allignment. After using the slants for a while, however, my concerns have passed. I simply jiggle the blade a bit when I load it, and both of my slants shave wonderfully.

Dont let it get you down, it's just one little extra step to shaving bliss

I'm sorry for asking a question that obviously has been asked many times. Thank you for responding and helping me. Your advice has worked and I'm now easily aligning the blade properly. I was aligning to the slant bar.

Like I said, I really love the razor. It's my favorite. Thanks again.

I used to do the cap down but now just watch blade alignment as you smoothly tighten. If it's off, you will feel and see it. Never a problem with my 37c and 39c.

LOve the slant! I just got mine this weekend from Chicago Shaving. Mine has a bit of play that allows the razor to sit uneven in relation to the cap when tightened.

I simply adjust it when it's nearly tightened by pressing against the razor with the back of my thumbnail where necessary to create an even reveal at the edge of the cap on both sides. Once it's even, tighten it fully.

It's super easy to do and once you have it tightened, it doesn't move.
