Merkur Progress innards.

parts of the vision are plastic and I think the main reason is due to how complicated all the parts are and the absolute number of parts needed. If you look at the futur or progress they have far simpler mechanism and need less finely machined parts. My hypothesis is the plastic parts in the vision are a cost cutting measure to help keep production costs low. This is probably for two reasons, plastic has a lot more give so the multitude of parts for the vision don't need to be made to as exacting tolerances for it to all go together and work. Also the most complicated inner pieces are probably made from plastic to help reduce the cost needed to produce them.

For the futur and progress I think the pieces are far simpler and there are just a smaller number of parts so they are able to produce these with the minimal number of plastic pieces. This is just my 2 cents, I obviously don't work for murkur so their true reason might be completely different. This is just what I believe to be the most reasonable answer.

The Vision has a nylon insert on the threaded/rotating/bearing surfaces in the handle. None of the internal mechanical is plastic. Some people would consider this to be a good thing, others are vocal in their discontent. I would not personally base my decision to purchase on this but as always, YMMV.

Thanks for your responses. I have no intent on buying a Vision, but was curious if the Progress had any plastic other than the knob (which has grown on me).
