Merkur numbering system - what does it mean?

Hello everyone:
Does anyone know what the numbering system for the Merkur razors mean? What is the difference between a 38C and a 22C or 15C, etc. ?

Happy Shaving,

Dan

The numbers are just for the various models. The C/G/N refer to a chrome, gold, or nickel finish.

I am not aware of any particular meaning of the numbers.

There are sort of four basic variants of the Merkur non-adjustables;

1. Regular weight straight bar or open comb, or long handle with straight bar or open comb
2. HD (heavy duty) with straight bar, slant bar, or open comb
3. Barber pole (long handle heavy razor) with straight bar, slant bar, or open comb
4. Retro 1904 style handle with straight or open comb.

I personally like the HD variants best - but YMMV.

+1 here. The name of the razor is what I think is important. The numbers are just the manufacturer's designation.
