Merkur HD razor blades?

I'm abought to buy the classic HD online, but before I do, I wanted to make sure that I can use any brand of blade, i.e. the ones at the drugstore if need be. Or some of those deals on Ebay for 100 blades. In other words, the Merkur HD does or does not require their brand of blade?
thanks!

Do yourself a favour, get some Derby or Feather blades straight away, they are much smoother, and sharper than the Merkur blades. While the Merkur Platinum's have some loyal follower's a lot of people have problems with them. I for one find them to be very rough and irritating, but YMMV.

thanks! man you guys are total shave junkies huh?? I've never been on a forum where I get such quick replies =)

Most of us have quit our jobs so that we can hang out on the forums.

Based on what i've done so far with wet shaving, it seems like the hardest area to shave is the curve of the chin, lot of pulling going on there. I'm just using some blades I got from the drugstore right now. Are the Derby "Extra" blades on ebay the same as the ones you mentioned? Derby or Israeli for a tough beard? I'm really digging these bulk buys on ebay, just don't want to buy bulk junk!!

Afterall, you can judge how well they work by Kyle's avatar!

And he shaves TWICE a day!

That's nothing. You should see how smooth they keep my back!

If I was forced to choose I would definitely opt for the Derby blades, but the Israeli's are nice. You will find wet shaving much easier to deal with if you resist this silly urge to choose between products, just get one (at least) of everything that interests you and you will be much happier in the long run. After all, until you get the Israeli's you're only going to wonder what they are like, and that's the type of thing that can haunt you:biggrin:

Dax702,

Ya know, you could also contact LetterK and see if he has any blade samplers left--then you could try 5 or 10 packs of the 4 or 5 of the best blades out there and see what you prefer.

Just a thought--the Derbys are a great starting place! And many never move on to another blade.
