Merkur blades.

Recently i purchased a Merkur Progress, btw, i really like the razor, and it came whit a case and a pack of Merkur blades.
I know, nobody likes Merkur blades, and me 2 i didn't like them, they were the first blade i used when i started shaving whit a DE.
But when i discovered Feather blades and other type of blades i just stoped using Merkur blades.
Well i gave them a "retry" when i got my Progress, and i got very surprised, in a positive way.
What i found is that they are not the sharpest blades available out there, but they last longer than all the blades i tried so far.
A good example is that whit a Feather i can get maximum 2 shaves, and all the other blades i tried (Astra , 7 o'clock, Lord, Supermax, Bluebirds..) it goes around a maximum of 3 shaves.
But now im on my fourth shaves whit the Merkur and i can feel that the blade is good to go for 3 more shaves.
Whatever , all that to say, they are not bad blades at all.

Even if you like them would you purchase them at about 45 cents a blade?

If you like them that is fine for you.

I tried the one that came with the 39 C slant I use, and had to change back to my Feather after one pass WTG. It felt horrible unsharp to me. Never again.

I am no fan of Merkur blades (overpriced for mediocre quality), but the blade included with any Merkur razor is ensured of being 100% garbage. It is free to rattle around the inside of the box for at least TWO shipments (possibly THREE) through the mail.

It's pretty much ensured to be the dullest blade you will probably ever run across.

100% agreed. They are a bit too pricey but in my top-5.

Not the sharpest indeed but maybe that is the reason why they live longer; when I grind my pocketknive as sharp as possible it stays like that for only a couple of days but when I give the bevel a less steep angle it will be less sharp but does stay that way for weeks.

This is a good example of someone finding what works best for them. Yes its true, most people don't like the Merkur blades, but they do work for some. :thumbup1:

Im sure that one of the main reason that makes people hate Merkur blades is that they judge them whit having only use the loose blade that come in each razor.

That is certainly part of it, but quite often a newbie buys additional Merkur blades with their razor, assuming that if Merkur razors are good, then their blades must be as well. They will thus assume Merkur blades are bad, because they will seem to pull, and skip. This is not a blade issue, but their lack of technique, and poor lather making skills.

I actually revisited Merkur blades after having a bad experience with them as a newbie; I now find them to be passable blades, but I found other cheaper blades to be superior.

I found that the Merkur blades work great in my Futur. There are some folks who really like the blade. I don't use them all the time because the red pack Personnas work great in my other razors and they are smoother and cheaper. I do keep a couple packs on hand for when the Futur gets used.
