Merkur blades, revisited

Today after approx. a year and a half into wet shaving, I decided to give Merkur blades a try again, and see if my improvements in technique would yield a better shave with these blades. :confused2

I like many other members used Merkur blades as my first blade just because they came with my first DE. Of course I learned that Merkur blades are overpriced and really pretty bad. :cursing: So I put them away, and found much better blades. Those first shaves with the Merkur's were really quite a turn off, gave a lousy shave, and left me with lots and lots of irritation. :thumbdown

Today while going through my shave stuff I came across some Merkur blades and decided to give them another shot. Well what a waste of time that was, I got lots of irritation, which really never happens anymore, some nicks and razor burn. To put it quite plainly, at least for me, the Merkur blades still SUCK, like I said, what a waste of time, never again for this guy. :thumbdown

So that leads me to this. I know there are some members out there who do like, and get great shaves from Merkur blades. Here's a good deal. I have about 45 brand new Merkur blades, give or take a couple. If any member would like them I'll be glad to send them to you. All I ask is a $5.00 dollar money order to cover packaging and shipping.

If any member is interested in this deal just respond back to me via PM, and I'll send you my address. These blades are new, I bought them when I first got into DE shaving when I was buying anything and everything. Check out the prices of Merkur blades now. :thumbdown

if you substituted the word 'Feather' everytime you typed 'Merkur', I would be in complete agreement! :biggrin1:

I wouldn't say that Merkur blades are that bad, they seem to work well enough. They just aren't worth the premium price they sell for.

I still have the blades from my first starter pack and every now and then will throw one in to see if things have changed as my technique has improved. Generally the answer is "no", and they are still not as sharp as I would like, nor as smooth.

+1. They are just OK. I don't find them terrible. I just think there are many other blades that are better and or at a better price.

In fact, going through some blades in my old sample packs has been a revelation. The Derby's that I thought were terrible are now great. In fact, every blade I was less than impressed with, no passes my test. I fully believe that it is because of changes in my technique, particularly shaving with NO PRESSURE.

Yes, they work but the price is out-of-sync when compared to other brands. You can shave withe Super Iridiums or Feathers and pay less.

+1 I've only tried one and that came with my Futur. It worked fine got a freat shave but I can get other blades much cheaper that perform just as well if not better.
