Merkur 11c

I got my new Merkur 11c arrived yesterday . I've been giving it a good once over and I not sure if this is normal or not since it seems to be a somewhat uncommon razor. Two things, the top of the plate attached to the head shows lots of parallel tooling marks the go in the short direction of the head. Secondly the ring used to attach the handle to the plate appears to have a gap on one side of it. Attached pictures try to show this, my camera phone may be good for a phone but the camera is still only mediocre.

How does the blade line up with the cover on?

I checked mine and there are some very faint tooling marks on the underside of the head. Your razor has a lot mote obvious ones...that is for sure.

The gap is what I find more troubling. There is absolutely no gap in my razor. You maybe should foward your photos to the vendor where you bought it.

Wow, I was happy to see someone report positive news about Merkur earlier...then here we go again.

I buy almost all my Merkurs locally and I inspect them closely before buying them. I have to admit that I have seen more then one that are not just cosmetic flaws but outright broken. Threads that are completely striped and adjustables that will not adjust.

I don't buy them I inform the store manager,they send them back and usually in a short time a good one is back on their shelf.

How does the blade line up with the cover on?

I think it may be affecting the blade gap. I can't seem to line it up on both sides at the same time.

Reading these types of posts more and more lately really bothers me. There's a couple of Merkurs I wanted to get (in addition to my 15C which does have a small defect, but I don't think it affects the shaves) but I just don't dare unless I could guarantee that someone with experience could very thoroughly inspect the razor before shipping it. Like that will ever happen.
