Menthol required in AS?

This is a YMMV question but those are observations that I made in the past few weeks.

I used Mennen Skin Bracer Original (green juice) for the last few months and recently switched to a non-mentholated version since it's getting very cold around here in Montreal. I do not find the Skin Bracer to be the strongest menthol punch. I mean, I can feel it but it's not the Artic shave!

I then moved to my other regulars such as Brut (I know it has menthol but not much), Pinaud Clubman original and Lilac Vegetal. I notice a stronger burning sensation when I use those. I do no remember having that last year or the year before. I need to get my bottle of Booster Lilac out again just to see if it's burning or not.

The point is, nothing really changed and I get this now which makes me wonder if my skin prefers Menthol to non-mentholated products.

I've never really felt the menthol kick from Brut of Skin Bracer, nothing like AV, Pacific Rush, or Osage. I use Skin Bracer and Brut and their ViJon counterparts more for the scent. You may be getting descensitized to the menthol. I am just guessing though.

It could be that the menthol is having a slight numbing effect and lessening the burn.

Hmm. I always felt Skin Bracer had even more menthol than AV.

One thing to note about Brut. The Cologne and After Shave do have menthol, but the Splash On does not. Also interesting is that the Dollar General knock off of the Splash On, does have menthol.

I used some Brut this morning (Made in Mexico) so it has menthol in it but not much. I noticed the scent of menthol when I opened the bottle but it's very mild!

The burning sensation was very mild. Tomorrow, I will try Booster Lilac that does not contain menthol and see how the alcohol with witch hazel react in terms of burning sensation.

I took my Booster Lilac out today, no Menthol and it was very nice. I know that booster has a lot of alcohol but also Witch Hazel. The burning sensation seems to be pointing on the fragrance IMO if I compare to Pinaud. But then, the Brut splash would be in the same category than the Pinaud and I didn't have any issues. I would probably need to check with a bottle of Brut Splash from Australia (lucky, I got a bottle).

So, I re-tried my bottle of Australian made Brut this morning (no menthol), no burning at all. I will go back to Pinaud Clubman original tomorrow and see how I go. I will also try Lilac Vegetal again just to compare as that one always had a sting...
