Mendel's Fountain Pens

Greetings from Mendel!

Here's a pic of my newest acquisition disorder:

The Twsbi 540 is very nice with the faceted barrel. It also weighs the most at 1 oz. It writes extremely well. I love the filling method. Question: Anyone invest in the Twsbi Glass Ink wells?

Next, is the affordable Noodler's Ahab Flex. It also writes extremely well. Going forward, I think I need to straighten the nib a bit. Also, I believe it needs a flat gasket on the thread where the barrel rolls onto the nib area. I'm not sure I'm making sense here. The weight here is .7 oz.

Let's turn our attention to the Pelican M200. An excellent writing pen. A bit on the small side, but a real beauty. This weighs .5 oz

And finally my Lamys (Lamies) ...my bad ...I wrote Lami on the sheets. These were my first fountain pens and have sentimental value. Going forward, I may use a syringe to fill the Lamy cartridges with ink. These also weigh .5 oz each. These really are wonderful, affordable, fountain pens.

I will now impose my "Rule of Seven"...that means I only have room for two more pens. What should I consider next?
Any thoughts about my current inks? I have yet to use my Waterman Black and Carter's.

Nice pens! And good selections of inks. I have never tried a TWSBI inkwell, don't think I would drop the $25 on one, rather use that towards another pen.

You have a nice collection that covers the range: The two Lamy's that can be used for almost anything. The Noodlers with its flex nib. Then, moving upscale a bit, the TWSBI for maybe carrying to class, and the Pelican for nicer events. Ok, so I'm projecting how I would use them!

Still, you have a nice range. What were you thinking of for your next pen(s)? A vintage or two to round out the collection? Those are all classic pens (or will be), and I'm thinking that a Parker "51" and an Estie would fit right in.

Or were you thinking of another everyday pen, or maybe something nearer the top if the range, like a Lamy 2000 or one of the Sailors, maybe? Or something funky like the TWISBI Micarta?

Therein lies the problem with pens, there are a lot of choices. Not like razors, where it's either a Merkur or an EJ.

of the two to add i would really consider a lamy 2000 fp if you like the lamys that you have...i have one in f, m, and b and enjoy them all...really wet, reliable writers, (and indestructable) and i enjoy that they are not full of bling. i guess if you want bling you should look elsewhere

Nice little collection you have going there Mendel! Which direction are you thinking of going when purchasing your "last" two -- nicer (more expensive), with a gold nib perhaps? Larger, smaller?

Do consider vintage as well.

Great job so far Mendel. If I may make a suggestion, play around with the ones you have now to find out what you really like before making another purchase. 5 pens is a pretty good start.

btw, what's this "rule of seven" nonsense ?

Fridays are Fishtastic!
Cool- did you get that green Pelikan from Todd? I have been eyeballing it- my black one needs a mate.

My "Rule of Seven" is a self- imposed control mechanism. :biggrin1: I have extended the rule to razors, soaps, creams, brushes... Still have work to do on after shave balms. Now, if I could just liquidate 17 of my 24 acoustic guitars!
