What's new

Meet my new brush handle.

proxy.php

now to figure out how to cut it down without breaking it.
Any ideas here?

It's a candle holder made of uranium glass, to match a shave set I'm putting together. Lillicraps hone, this holder as a brush handle, and a shaving mug (making do with a uranium glass teacup at the moment, eh, still looking for something better).

Hey I hadn't thought of the brush but I got a Lillicraps hone, a small one cup jug with 3 pour spouts (as a mug), a sweets dish as a lather dish (or whatever it's correct name is), a butter dish as a storage container and a salt saver dish as a blade storage device. They are all 30's green glass and supposed to be uranium glass, still to test.
IMHO as a newbie I think its a pretty sweet looking collection, I only have one item left to arrive which is a double handled cup (or sugar bowl) which I'm hoping will be the perfect size for some soap to fit in. Will post some pics when I get it all set up with UV light as well.

Sounds very nice. Yes, please post pics!
I picked up this Nebo led flashlight at Ace hardware. One of it's settings is blacklight, so it's handy to take along. I saw a double handled green glass sugar bowl today when I picked this up - but sadly it did not glow. Would have been perfect.

actually yes, now take in mine that this is just something you could try. Get some glass coke bottles or similar cheap glass product. Get a glass cutter, a butane, propaane or similar torch( needs to be able to reach 1200 degrees you dont want it to be much hotter then that or it will give neg results), gloves well insulated ones, and a metal plate able to withstand the heat of the torch.

First off make your cut close to where you want your product butt to be, but not right on it you will need a small amount more for a reason. After you have made your cut, with your gloves on and the torch lit, place the bottom part( the part that you cut near) against the plate. On the other side of the metal plate heat it up with the torch. Glass has a low melting point so thats why you dont want the heat direct. The heat will melt down the rough surface from the cut and seal the glass back into a suitable finished product. Do not allow the glass to cool to quickly or it will crack.

This is also the way to make cande holders from coke bottles etc. try it with a bottle or a similar product and let me know how it works.

I was gonna say wet saw, but the heating method will work better i think. I have a glass hen on the nest made out of the same stuff.

Yes with such a delicate piece i think it would be much safer to use a hand cutter then to melt down the edge. The vibration on a wet saw could cause the glass to break, better safe then sorry.

Update:

I gave up on that particular candle holder. I found one with more pizazz. I had it cut and the sharp edges ground down. As luck would have it, the hole is approximately 7/8 inch (a hair [if you'll forgive the pun] over 22mm).

Oh, and when this is done, I'm taking the bottom piece of it and smashing it up. This will go into a clear tube and filled with clear epoxy, then capped with the threaded end of a ball end handle. :001_smile
