Meerschaum

Guys, what is a good brand/source for a first Meerschaum pipe? I would like something basic, like a billiard or bulldog style, but I'm not sure where to begin.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I've been looking at Meers as long as I've been smoking. Lots of places are good it seems but I'm still holding out on the perfect one. I would first check out your local B&M as tobacconists usually have some around. If that isn't an option there are a bunch of site out there that sell meers in both traditional styles and the more sculpture like. I'll see if I can dig up some links for you.

Another source, I have not ordered from, so I can't advise.
Sinan makes a decent pipe and his prices are reasonable.

Fikri Baki is another carver, and his work is outstanding.

Whomever you go with, make sure it's BLOCK meerschaum and not pressed. Block smokes well and is what you've heard of, pressed is garbage. If it's cheap, I can almost guarantee that it's pressed.

Block is a natural block that has been carved. Pressed is the sweepings or pieces of block that have been pressed or glued back into a block.
