What's new

MdC size

I just received my jar of MdC fougere and it is exactly the same size as my old jar of regular that I purchased in Paris in August 2012, the one with the paper label. The one I bought in Paris looks the same as my memory of my first jar which I bought in 2011.

I did scoop out the contents of my original jar after a couple of months of use in order to save weight as I moved overseas, and even after such usage it still weighed more that 180 grams, which is clearly more than the 170 grams that was stated when I bought it. So I am wondering whether the quantity has not changed at all, but rather, that they were underestimating the weight of the original and they are now labeling it more accurately at 200 grams?

Does anyone else have an old MdC jar to compare to the newer ones?

BTW fougere is definitely worth picking up, particularly if you disliked the scent of the original.

Where do you live ad what service delivered it? I have been desperately waiting for this soap since I placed the order ad I m in buffalo.

That's my theory. I don't have the jars to do a side-by-side comparison, but nothing seems different, really and it would seem to be a real pain to have to redesign new jars, packaging, etc., to accommodate a 30g difference.

When did you place the order and did you place it with MdC directly? I have found that international shipments can range all over the place. I have had shipments arrive in less than five days (from MdC no less) and some upwards of a month, and all from reputable places. The issue is usually not with the originating country, but with US customs.

I live in Korea and I ordered it on the day that the 2nd batch became available (I think it was the 13th). It arrived here on Monday the 20th. I just used whatever the standard service is that they offer. I recall that my first jar to Australia was about the same speed, but customs where you live could be holding things up. I'm sure it will get to you. It did take a couple of days after I ordered it for them to notify me that it had been posted, so the demand might also have slowed things down on their end.

my old 170g jar and my new 200g jars are identical in looks.

If anyone wants to weight a full tub with lid of the new 200g jar (with a digital scale) and post it, I'd be glad to do the same with my 170g ful jar.

i know the scales will be different, but if it's close, we should be able to know.

My guess is as above, the old 170g jars were actually filled with 200g of soap or close to it.

That's insane - I ordered it on the 13th and it still hasn't arrived... and I live in Belgium, right next door to France...

Lets do that. I am awaiting the arrival of my Fougere next week. I have a jar of the 170gm soap but part of it is used so it would do no good.

I ordered a jar about 6 months ago..I ordered on Thursday evening and I received the soap late Monday afternoon.
So..4600 miles across the Atlantic in 4 days and one of them was a Sunday...most likely yours got caught up in customs.

That really sucks. It's there in your country but I bet customs has it. All three of mine arrived in five days and I live on the West coast here in California.

I have a tub of each (original and fougere)--one is new and the other has been used only once, so it will be a fair comparison. The new one is at the office, so I'll bring it home and compare/weigh them.

There are no customs between countries in the EU - it's a single market. Looking at the tracking info, it looks like they didn't even send it out till the 20th, so I'm guessing the problem was on their end, most likely a huge rush of orders in a short time frame.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have a jar of Fougere (200 grams) and Original scent (170 grams). The Fougere is unused, while the Original has been used only once (and very little at that--it took almost nothing to generate a lot of lather). The Original jar is tan (on the left) and the Fougere is greenish (on the right).

The jars appear identical. They are exactly the same size, and I can't tell a difference in weight by just holding them. They also appear to be both filled to the very top.

However, weighing them on a scale does reveal a difference in weight:
Fougere (200 gm) = 541 grams
Original (170 gm) = 513 grams

Assuming the Fougere weight is accurate, one can interpolate that the glass jar weight 341 grams. Subtracting that from the measured weight of the Original leaves 172 grams.

So, this isn't terribly scientific, but it does appear that there is more soap in the larger size.

Interesting. I weighed my new jar of MdC Fougere and it was 527 grams- the same as Bruce's 170gm jar.

I have an empty 170g jar somewhere, but not sure it's worth looking for to weigh as I'm not sure it will prove anything as there will always be slight variations with weights and scales used etc.

The only way to know for sure what you have in a jar, would be to scoop it out and weigh it....which I'm not willing to do to any of mine.
