Marlin High Speed - are these usable?

A friend gave me a pack of Marlin High Speed blades that were apparently made before 1944. Minimal rust, none on the edges. I have not heard people on this board discussing the use of vintage blades that are probably 60+ years old. Can I use them? Would it be wise to do so? What if they become my favorite blade??

I've wanted to try some old carbon blades however, I've read a few discussions here on B&B which have dissuaded me. What has been said is that even though you can't see rust on the edge of the blade, there still could be a very small amount which could still be enough to cause a harsh shave and even run the risk of infection. If it makes you feel any better, those that have tried vintage carbon blades say that they aren't up to our standards today. However, if you can come up with some vintage stainless blades, definitely give them a try!

They won't become your favorite blade. Try one just to see what it was like back in the "good" old days!

Use them in your display case.

I think I'd put them on display duty. Which isn't half bad, since old blade packs have the neatest artwork on them a lot of times.

I have a bunch of the Gillette blues and the Marlin blades. I found if you strop them first you can be sure to get a "vintage" shave from them...lol. Helps to stretch your while shaving with these. Makes you appreciate and respect what Grampa had to go through back then!
