Mama Bear: Where to begin?

Soooooo many choices! Post your favs. I'm an early morning shaver. Something nice to kick start my day would be great.

There is only one beginning.....Aged Spice.

Actually all of Mama's soaps are dynamite, but since the demise of Old Spice shave soap (Proctor and Gamble wants us to be content with Swagger and Aqua Reef--Bah!) Aged Spice is where most of us O/S fans turn to. It smells great and gives a super shave.

Ye Olde Barbershoppe is another excellent, "go-to" soap from Mama Bear...

MB soaps are great performers. I currently have two, Aged Spice and Coconut Lemongrass and both are wonderful. I have a Cellestial Waters en route also.

I like the Rosemary Mint in the summertime. Smells a bit like Vicks VapoRub, wakes me right up. I have yet to try Awakenings, that might have to be my next purchase when summertime comes back around. I'm thinking about the Patchouli for the winter, maybe Backyard Gazebo for the spring.

Bottom line, pick a scent you know you like and go for it. The soaps are fantastic.

My goal is to collect all of Mama Bear's soaps. Hehe, okay, MOST. I just haven't used one yet that I don't like. However, I have narrowed my top 4. In other words, if I was allowed to only buy 4 MB soaps, it would be these four:

1) Ye Olde Barbershoppe
2) Masculine Musk
3) Bay Rum
4) Chypre Rose

If I could only have these four soaps for the rest of my life and no others, I could be happy.

TABAC!!!

No wait, you said Mama Bear's. I would pick up a soap or two and a bunch of soap slivers in various scents. Personally, I enjoy Lime, Orange Orange, Spruce, Dragon's Tears, and most recently Lavender Peppermint (when you want a cooling sensation without freezing your face).

I've used three of 'em:

Aged Spice: Reminescent of vintage Old Spice but more subdued. I bought the cologne to go along with it, but ended up using it as a room/auto spray, instead. It's not bad at all, it's just not as good as the original. Still, it's good stuff.

GIT: Too grassy for my liking. Relegated to the shower.

Sandalwood: Very strong scent at first. After a while, though, the scent becomes much more subdued and reminded me of Diptyque Tam Dao. Pretty good stuff.

All three were very good in terms of lather; scent; efficacy; you name it. I prefer QED soaps overall, though.

YMMV.

Thanks to you guys here at B&B I had to try some Holiday scented shaving soaps. Got MAMA bears Christmas Rose. At first sniff I thought it was awful girly. But then it grew on me, so I ordered MAMA Bears Chypre Rose Cologne Splash to go with it. Still smells girly to me. BUT, my knock dead, gorgeous dance partner loves it!! Nuff said about that.

Acqua Di Gio is exactly the same as the cologne. But it is has a subtle scent. Its not heavy cologne. I would decribe it as light citrus.

Just keeps growing on you every time you use it to the point the other soaps in the rotation start seeing less face time.

I highly recommend this one. :thumbup1:

That's all that matters, right? Personally, I think rose scents, much like lavender, can work just as well on men as they do on women.

Although Rosemary Mint seems like the MB standard for some reason, here a few others you might enjoy:

- Chypre Rose: a very powdery rose, not cloying at all
- Spiced Lime: a nice, different take on lime -- good change of pace from straight lime EO
- Finally, to kick start the day: Tuscan Memories (it's tuscan something - too lazy to get up and go check in cabinet) A total WOW in terms of Piny-ness, great with Blenheim Bouquet or Pino Sylvestre.

Next on my list to try: Orange Orange

This one doesn't seem to get much play around here, but I'll tell you that I really enjoyed it. There is a review in the Reviews section.

Also votes for:

- Ye Olde Barbershoppe
- Rosemary/Mint
- CZAR'S CHOICE (just came out - lime and cilantro)

Her Ice lines are awesomely mentholated. The Mandarin Ice is particularly nice.

I got Frankincense and Myrhh from my wife for Christmas. Shaved with it again this morning.

I cannot describe the scent but I really like it. Now I can see why Frankincense and Myrhh were so expensive and prized in Biblical times.

There's no particular reason why this has to be just a seasonal scent. It doesn't smell like Christmas; it just smells good.
