Male Holiday to Cancun - From UK

Hi everybody.
I am from the UK and me and 3 or 4 work mates are all thinking about travelling to Cancun next year for some fun and partying.
We are trying too make it not solely based around drinking alcohol but also around activitys ie scuba diving etc.
The ages will be 30, 27, 21, 20, 20 and we have all been on holidays like this before to various places around europe : greece - zante, spain - ibiza, cyprus - ayia napa etc but everyone fancies a change and was originally planning to go during Spring Break.
However due to one member playing semi-professional football we have to go when his season ends which is May - aug/sept.
When between these dates would be most busy and best too experience cancuns wild nightlife??
And do people recommend travelling too here??

You're in luck, Cancun's high season ends around mid-April, and hurricane season doesn't start until September/October. Prices should be great! OTOH, it's likely to be extremely hot and humid during that time, especially for a Brit who never sees the sun the rest of the year

Cancun proper is, IMO, a bit of a hole. It exists almost exclusively for drunken college revelry - although if that's your thing, go for it! If you're looking for a party vacation, personally I would stay in Playa del Carmen, it's a little classier, a bit more upscale, and closer to a lot of the activities (ruins, Isla Mujeres, the Biosan Nature Preserve) but still has great nightlife. If you want to go more native, check out the resorts around Tulum, they vary from 4-star all-inclusives to no electricity cabins perched on cliffs high over the sea.

Either way, if you're going to do any activities stay away from the tour buses. It's cheap and easy to rent a car and get around yourself without getting sucked into tourist trap shopping expeditions the bus always seems to pull off the road for. And no matter what, stop at every Cenote (fresh water swimming holes caused by natural sinkholes) you can find, there's nothing like swimming in a pool 200 feet underground with treeroots hanging far above your head!

I have just found out that we are going for last week of may first week of june - so 2 weeks altogether.
It sounds worse than it is but we are into the student lifestyle i suppose and going away and having 2 weeks of fun like the spring Breakers.
We understand weatherwise that it may be very hot and humid but we figure we can deal with this.
So im guessing it will still be very busy with young students around the time we are visiting?? Last thing we wwant to be doing is hitting the clubs and there not being many other boys and girls our own ages.
I have forgot the name of the hotel we are staying in but aparently its just outside the nightlife is a 3* plus and is right next too a waterpark.

While everything he said is true, if your going with several guys to party, I would stay in Cancun or go to Cozumel. Tons of dance clubs and ladies looking to have a good time.

My wife and I will be visiting Maroma, which is just north of Playa del Carmen the first week in June for the third time in a year.

If I could remember anything about my trips to Cozumel and Playa del Carmen I'd try and throw some advice out there. It's all just an alcohol and Moctezema's Revenge-induced haze now. I do remember the basics though...beer...fire...girls...sand...greasy street food...an iguana. Sorry, that's about it. I think it was fun though so I say go for it.

We are flying from the UK to Cancun on the 31/May/2011
And returning 15/Jun/2011
We are staying at the 4star Barcelo Costa Cancun.
Has anyone heard of or even stayed at this hotel??
And the dates have slightly changed since i last posted so will it still be as busy

Actually, when we were in Cancun last summer, there were tons of English and Scottish people. I think Scottish people refuse to wear sunscreen because there was tons of bright red round people running around shouting in a language that no one could understand. Good people!

Isn't Cancun on the Gulf of Mexico? I don't think the oil has been heading in the direction of Mexico at this time. Hope it works out for you.

Be safe. I was there 10 years ago or so. A friend of mine very drunkenly punched a police officer. I definitely don't recommend that.
