From a Merkur HD to a Tech, and want to know what to expect. I'm really new at this, and want to know how blades and face reaction will change because of this. Any sage advice to proffer?

Nice razor.

I think you're going to like the Tech, it's one of my favorites and my benchmark when I am trying a new blade.

I use Feather blades and rarely cut or nick my face.When my son tried this combo, he remarked that it didn't feel like it was cutting anything.

There's not to much to watch out for. If you have your technique down with the HD, it will work as well with the Tech.

Personally I think the Tech is to mild. I have both the Gold Tech and an HD. If you want a milder razor than the HD you will probably love the Tech, but if like the HD you may be disappointed. I find it almost impossible to cut myself with a Tech, even though I use very sharp (Feather, Irridium, etc.) blades. YMMV

If you like the HD, consider a Progress. It is pretty much an adjustable HD.

As mentioned by the other posters the Tech is much milder than HD. That being said there is nothing wrong with that. You might have to do few more passes with the Tech than you do with the HD.

Perfect learners razor. Very forgiving.

Once you perfect your technique with the Tech, you will be able to take full advantage of the HD.
