What's new

LOTS of sawdust lately! Here's a bunch of handles in various states of finish [PICS]

Had allot of spare time lately and with the great weather I've been living in my shop!

I also hit the exotic wood store the other day so I had to try out some new types of wood!~

Hope you enjoy the pics! As always - opinions and feedback are welcome and appreciated!

Cheers all!

Rob, what is the wood on the first photo third from the left?

That's Chakte-Kok - quickly becoming one of my favs. The third, fourth and last one in the first photo are all Chakte-kok. The third and fourth are pure tung oil, while the last one is a danish oil. Isn't it nice how the tung just deepens the reds in this wood?

Wow, those are some great looking brushes. I can't help but be drawn to the blue and white one. I take it that's acrylic?

No that is actually not acrylic believe it or not. That is from a block of multi-laminate wood block I picked up the other day. It should be turned the the other way (that's all end-grain on that one - brutal on the tools and a ***** to turn). I thought I'd give it a try the "wrong" way for giggles. Turned out alright I think - funky. I'm looking forward to turning one the right way and seeing all those layers peel through.

Sounds like it would definitely be a bit of a job to turn it the right way. But it would definitely provide an interesting effect.

It has a very nice finish and has a certain translucence. Well done.

I've been wanting to turn my own wood handles for a while now.
Do you need to put some kind of water sealer on them?

Great work! I particularly like the details, the jimping on some of them, and the intricacies of the turnings. Well done indeed.
