Lord Premium Safety Razor Model LP1822L(L6)

Has anyone ever tried this razor? Is it worth the 10 bucks? How does this compare to say... The EJ DE89 ? I'm at a toss up between the two, and I'm cheap.

I searched the threads and found old postings on it, but has anyone tried it or still keep them around in their rotation?

That's what I'm thinking. My Gillette I have now works well, but I need something with a slightly bigger handle. both the Lord and the EJ have longer handles.

When a razor is named after you it has to be purchased :biggrin1: so I bought one a year ago. It gives a mild but surprisingly good shave. Not great on build quality, nothing like a vintage Gillette but as I say the shave is good and some have been very enthusiastic about it. Sorry I have not tried the EJ. When I load it with a Lord blade the wife is really impressed....I mean surely that look of hers when she raises her eyes to the heavens means I am god-like to her

"I have both an L6 and a EJ DE89 Barley in my 6 razor rotation, and the Lord still sees regular use. It's not even in the same league with the EJ DE89 on fit and finish, but still works really well for me. Easily worth $10 IMO, but if you are looking for something that exudes quality workmanship and will probably last longer, the EJ would be the better bet."

EXACTLY my sentiments.

The L6 is my daily razor since my plunge into DE shaving at the end of May. I'll upgrade around Christmas time. Well worth the $10 to see if DE shaving is for you.

I too like the longer handle on the L6. I tried a Weishi and didn't like it at all.

For me, the Gillette blacks and the Israeli red Personnas (red IPs) work best for me. The yellow Gillettes' work well on day 2+, but give me razor burn on day 1. YMMV.

What the L6 lacks in looks and workmanship, it makes up for in performance.

Nice to have at least for a travel razor, if not regular use at home.

I find the L6 to be too light for my liking. Compared to my 38M, it feels like a cheap toy. If you're used to a lighter razor it might be alright though.

I am a fan of the Lord LP1822 aka L6. I have one in use for about 4 years now and though it doesn't look as good my Mühle R89 (almost the twin brother of the EJ89's with the exact same head) it shaves just as good imo (though not identical). The Lord is the razor I use most of the time and for $10 it is a very good deal. It has not shown any wear and tear yet so build quality is at least decent but finish and material of the handle is not in the same league as the EJ.

I found it to be so nice to use that I stocked a few more just in case and it is the razor with what I want to introduce my son to proper shaving when the time comes. Btw both the Lord and the EJ are rather mild shavers but do a great job.

I started with the L6 when I started wet shaving 2 months ago. And it was a decent little (figure of speech, seeing as how the handle is SUPER long) razor. it got me through the techniques of using DEs. Then I upgraded to vintage Gillettes and haven't gone back. I don't think I've used the L6 in at least a month.

My Merkur progress has been sitting idle since I bought the l6.
I wrote a couple lenghty reviews about it (will post a link later).
I also use it with shimms when I feel like a less mild shave.
It comes with a sample lord platinum blade which is the smoothest and most forgiving blade I have ever tried (bought a pack of 100). Because the safety bar is machined with a sharp edge, it gives you a clear feedback on how much pressure you are applying. Fantastic shaver IMO that worked better for me than the Merkurs (23c and progress).

I love the L6 head, but wasn't all that crazy for the long handle so I bought an L5 and I use that handle instead. I actually like how light it is.

Something I do often is pair the L6 baseplate with the top cap of my Muhle R89. It just about doubles the aggressiveness. I either pair it with the L5 handle, or the Muhle R89 handle. Doesn't look pretty because of the L6 baseplate, but performance is great.

A very nice racor thats worth double the money it costs, when it comes to its shaving abilitys. Mild but not to mild and always close enough with a few passes. I have both a short handle version and a long. And the short version is somehow better for me.

The L6 was the first DE razor I bought. Shortly therafter I got the EJ89. The EJ is not only made better, but also shaves a little closer IMO. The handle of the L6 is aluminum & hollow making it light, while the EJ has heft and is wider. The L6 is a fantastic buy. I recommend you get both.

Sounds like a great idea. Will try it soon.

Yes i have it and yes i still use it, it's a great little razor that gets the job done. I like to use it with a Feather blade to compensate for it because it's very gentle.

I can't speak on the Lord L6, but the L5 is what got me into to DE shaving. It did fine, especially when you consider I was still getting my technique down.
