I'm really interested in trying these but all the samples I've seen seem to be pretty pricey. I'm most interested in the neroli portofino as I really love citrus scents. Would anyone happen to know where I could get the best price and perhaps weigh in on how it compares to some more well known fragrances?

The Nordstrom in my area stocks it, surprisingly. It's in their women's section. Any Nordstroms near you?

For an approximation of the scent, I would say it's somewhere in the neighborhood of Varvatos Artisan and Bergamotto Marino.

Check out my review a couple posts down. I just reviewed that yesterday morning. There are lots of vendors around that have the scent available in decant sizes. The only one I've used and can recommend is decantshop.com. There are vendors on this site (scentfreak, Garry, angelfire) that may give a cheaper deal to you. Don't forget to contact them.

Cheers,

M.

You can make a deal with a decanter as mentioned above, but to my knowledge there are no websites that "discount" the Tom Ford offerings.

TF runs a very tight ship on distribution.

Sephora now carries this, at least here in Canada and I believe I saw his line at European Sephoras too so might be the case in the USA. Worst case, buy a decant from online like perfumed court / surrender to chance, or Crystal Flacon, etc.

Call a few higher end stores like Nordys, Neimans, Saks, etc

It may be hard to believe but at Saks in NYC (THE Saks on 5th Av) I've gotten 5 ml sample bottles (Neroli was one and I think I got Arabian Wood another time). They actually make them up and put on labels. I imagine these are used for customers who purchased some product but I've been able to get a few late in the day.

I really like the Tom Ford fragrances. I know they get criticised for being very linear, but I like what I like. I use Grey Vetiver as a daily work fragrance. I have sample sizes of Tuscan Leather (night time only, but awesome!) and Italian Cypress. I know it sounds rather stingy/cheap/embarrasing, but I occasionally go to Saks (Detroit area) when my wife goes and they always give me free TF samples. Sephora also gives free samples when I go. These are expensive fragrances and I would not recommend a blind buy.

On a side note, I did get some ADP samples from the Decantshop.com and they were fine to deal with.

You are in a world of pain my friend. Give it up. Try only Noir de noir and you'll know the pain.
Anyway, congratulations on your taste :)

I recommend trying Italian Cypress, Tuscan Leather, Tobacco Vanille, Neroli Portofino, Bois Marocain, Amber Absolute, Oud Wood, and Arabian Wood.

I've had all of them at one point and still own Tuscan Leather.

The Neroli is nice, I use my wifes shower gel occasionally but I really like the Azure Lime especially for the summer. I guess it would be a chypre - citus and oakmoss?
I like citrus in the summer but most of them have no longevity. The woodsy ones are just to, well, woodsy for me. Although I like and have some woodsy stuff from Montale the Tom Ford stuff is too much like pencil shavings or a cedar plank for me. And yes, it is in women's and you will spend 2 hunj.

Hi, i have both Tobacco and Vanille and Oud Wood, the wife has Noir Noir and we picked them all up in airport duty free(huge savings) we also have a lot of testers that are decanted for us when she buys TF make up

Just did the same as Buckeye at a Saks in Palm Springs. Very generous samples. I guess they understand the need to try out a $210-$500+ fragrance before buying.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery:)
They use 4 ml sample jars that are labeled which you also see for sale on ebay. I've even had a Saks SA decant one for me while I was standing there. I was never bold enough to ask for 2 different scents though.

IMHO, Tom Ford's frags always seem unfinished to me. Kind of like a straight razor with a well set bevel. The potential is there but more work is required.
