What's new

Looking for a new MILD DE.

Gents:

I'm looking to pick up a new "mild" DE. I have a Gillette SS, which is nice. But the doors tend to loosen a bit during my shaves. I have to check the tightness from time to time as I shave. Today I used an Astra blade and thought it was a bit to abrasive for me on the neck, until I realized that my SS doors had loosened a tad.

So I'd like to get a new manufacture DE that is along the lines of my SS in terms of its aggressiveness. Money is NOT an issue, but I'd like to stay away from TTO models (like Parkers). It appears that the Merkur 34c and the Muehle R89 are the contenders here. If so, which is the better model for my needs? Are there other DE's out there that fit the bill? Note, I'm looking for a new DE.

Thanks.

Unless your SS is different than mine was, a Merkur 34C or a Muehle R89 are not even remotely close to being as mild.

If money is no object I would say the Feather Stainless would be a good choice. I do not own one myself but have heard they shave like a Gillette Tech which is very mild and in the same league as my blue tip, but YMMV, just a thought though.

New manufacture mild razors..... Not many out there..

Feather AS-D2
PILS 101ne

Merkur open comb models
1904
11c
12c
15c
25c

That pretty much is all I can come up with.

The 15C is certainly mild. But now you say the 11C is as well? I've been wanting one, but if it's considered mild maybe not.

GAMMON:

The 34c and R89 are not mild? Everything I've read about those models are that they are great for beginners. I just assumed that they were thus a bit more mild. And why an "open comb model"? What's the difference? Thanks.

Okay, I'm probably going to give you guys a fit, as I asked for recommendations for NEW DE's. But after doing a search, I see that the old Gillette Techs are pretty mild. Is that true? Maybe I should just invest in a good condition Tech?

a tech is very mild and can be had on the cheap. There are many handle configurations as well. If you wanted to spend some money and time you could probably find a minty cased one that would not only work well but be easy to look at as well

I was wanting to suggest a NOS tech to get around your "new" requirement. I've gotten many Tech models on eBay for under $10, including shipping. If you're so inclined, I could PIF you a sanitized but cosmetically not perfect Tech (lfree postage in the US, pay it forward)Send me a PM with your address.

Very nice offer and a great way for the OP to see if he likes such a mild razor:thumbup:

That, Sir, is a very generous offer in true B&B spirit.

I am fairly new to this but the ball end Tech was recommended to me and from the 7 razors I have used so far it is a dream to use even with a feather blade.
I picked it up for $20 shipped.
