Loading Schick without the cassette?

Is it possible to load/unload the Schick Injector without the keyed cassette using just loose SE razor blade? How do you accomplish it?

You would need to insert something else to open the razor a bit to push the old blade out and then push a new one in. You should consider loading a magazine with the blade and then use the magazine (much easier).

How exactly, without hurting yourself or the razor, not sure. It's not like the Cobra.

Use a very small Flat-head screw-driver and carefully insert the blade with needle-nose pliers so your fingers aren't near the Business end of the blade.

is there something wrong with the injector cassette?

By travel razor - do you mean carry-on, or just general use?

Normally, Schick sell the blades in a magazine. If you bought some in bulk, it's fairly easy to reload a magazine

Let me clarify. I'm looking for a carry-on razor. I do not check in luggage. I normally mail a few DE razor blades in a plain envelope to my destination hotel. I was trying to find a way to do the same with a SE razor.

I've found injector cartriges for sale at our local supermarkets, I can't imagine they'd be too hard to find at your destination.

Oh, suddenly it all makes sense :)
Maybe...and I'm not entirely sure about this....a Hydromagic model? I know they open up enough to clean out but I don't know if you can get the blade in that way...

No, you cannot load a loose blade in a hydro magic model. When the lever is actuated, the blade bed separates slightly from the cap but the blade is held securely in place by two pins that fit in the two holes in the blades. You must shut the razor and load it like any other injector.

That being said, there is ONE injector that fits the OP's specifications. The early E models were designed to be opened for cleaning by moving the clamp under the head to the left. This allowed the blade bed door to swing free and you CAN load a blade this way even though it was also designed to be injected. You could mail your blades to the hotel and then load them when you got there with no tools needed.

Again, this is early E models only. I have a mint E model that I believe was made in 1942 or a year or two later that has the tabs on the clamp to lock it in like a G model thereby making it impossible to open.

Actually the B model Injectors do not need a Cartridge with a key, you carefully load the blade by hand, easy to load or empty. Broke out my B1 for tomorrow's shave.

You are lucky. I can't find injector cartridges anywhere locally. We used to have a mom and pop pharmacy that carried them, but mom and pop were arrested for Medicare fraud, so no more pharmacy.
