Lipstick or lip balm tube for shave stick?

I searched but couldn't find. It has probably been done before I am sure. I think a lipstick tube with some soap in it would be a cool travel item. Even the small travel deodorant tubes would be good too. If you have done this; what type tube did you use and what did you use for the soap. I am going to try the lipstick and chopsticks tubes for sure. Just checking to see what you guys have done.

That's a good idea but it would take a while to paint the face.

Speaking of chapstick, those little containers of Blistex (the not the twist variety but the short containers) are a great size for carrying some cream along. I also use a contact lens holder which is great for cream.

Soaps - I had a little disposable lid type container but it was a pain so I went the cream/contact container for a travel container.

The diameter sounds a bit small for my taste. I have an old Opal stick that is probably almost twice the diameter, and it still feels a bit small. Good soap, though: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...-Opal-quot-shave-sticks?p=3590759#post3590759 has photos.

Some gents here have made shave sticks using glue stick containers: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...r-Palmolive-Shave-Stick?p=3231858#post3231858 for example.

However right now I am using a soap sample (SCS New Spice) in an old film canister and it works pretty well.

Film canisters are the right diameter for a 28-mm stick: Palmolive, Speick, etc. They are too small for the full length of a stick, but nice for travel. It seems to me they could also be used to stickify part of a puck. I have yet to try this one myself.

  • Steal a chickenFind an empty film canister.
  • Cut a finger-size hole in the bottom of the canister.
  • Drop a quarter or similar-sized coin in the bottom.
  • Pack soap into the canister.

Push up the soap from the bottom, using the quarter as a base. Lather. Shave.

This is very compact, and with something like Palmolive it ought to last about a month. It gets tricky to push the soap up after a while, but you can always eject the soap and add more quarters to the bottom. Or add something with a similar diameter, like a bottlecap.

The Taylor of Old Bond Street shave stick containers are excellent. I was going to fashion a travel container out of something else, but I figured I'd drop $10 or $15 for a real shaving stick with a proper container that can be reused with cheaper soaps (i.e. Arko) in the future.
