Lillet Ideas?

I finally caved and bought a bottle of Lillet rouge. After having a sip, I'm not sure if it will substitute in a manhattan as well as it's blanc cousin will in a gin martini. Anyone have any experience with the rouge and tips for serving?

Thanks, and cheers!:cool1:

So 3 manhattans later, I stand corrected. While it is a sweeter and more herbal concoction than the traditional manhattan, they are mighty tasty alternative for fellow fans of rye cocktails. I normally use about 1/2 oz vermouth in a manhattan and have found that about half of that seems to make a smooth cocktail. Also, after having another sip or two of the rouge on its own, it may make for a very nice perfect manhattan or alteration of a gin cocktail. The research continues...

I'd be inclined to try it as a sub for Dubonnet Rouge in a Dubonnet cocktail.

1 1/2 oz gin
3/4 oz Dubonnet Rouge
a dash or three of orange bitters if I have it on hand
lemon twist for garnish

The rouge I think makes a decent sub for the blanc in the corpse reviver #2. Also, I don't object to drinking it on the rocks as an appertif.

BTW - If you have no already try to pick up a bottle of the new lillet rose. It is quite good.

Try it with a slice of blood orange floating on top. The volatile oils from the orange peel seem to amplify the flavors. It goes great with liver, for some reason...

My bad!!

Thanks for the suggestion. I am definitely going to try the dubonnet rouge alteration, and need to look up the corpse reviver.

Seems that orange bitters +/- orange twist is the way to go. I've been looking for an excuse to get some orange bitters
