What's new

Like Goldilocks looking for her porridge.

So last night I am at my in-laws for dinner. After a great meal, Pop says "lets have a cigar" we settle in outside, just as the night breeze is cooling down the 97 degree day. Nice cedar wrapped Churchill, get it cut, lite and lit and lit and cut the cigar down and lite and after 20 minutes of fussing with it , Pops says "Let me get you another" Coffee comes out and all is well for an hour, just a horrible stinker of a loose roll.

Tonight, I am a bachelor, so I get a 1-1/4'' ribeye steak aging in the fridge. Baked tater and a salad. Fantastic meal after a very busy day.

Ah.... a cigar should do it. A nice cool breeze coming in from the Nor'west, been inside all day.So I gathered my cutter, lighter, ashtray, coffee, laptop,ect.. Clipped and lit her up. whattheheck, a plugged cigar! Solid like a rock. Grabbed another stick and it was OK.
Its literally been years since I have gotten a defective cigar so much so that I could not smoke it, now I have two in a row> Whats up with that?

What is tomorrow going to bring?

I remember back in the cigar boom days when every other one was plugged. It was an exercise in patience.

I've honestly never heard of a defective cigar. Hate to hear that Jim. Hopefully a glass of Scotch made it all better.

What does one do with a plugged cigar? I ran into my first one a couple weeks ago. I cut a chunk off of the end and smoked it in my pipe, but that just didn't seem right.

If the cigar is plugged you can try gently rolling the hard spot between your finger and thumb, just be careful not to crack the wrapper. Most plugs happen close to the head, so you can also use a unfolded paper clip to spear down through the cigar in a couple spots to open it up. Unfortunately these are usually temporary fixes, and chances are you'll be fighting it the whole time.
