This is a old "3 Matches" Cigar video (which I think is still cool), to light a cigar (won't work too well in windy

conditions), by Gorden Mott, Executive Editor for Cigaraficionado. This video intrigued me to no end and this neat approach to lighting cigars does have a sort of 'joie de vie' (joy of life), feel to it that I have to share it with you!

That was a cool video. I usually smoke out side, so I would probably go through 12 before I could get one lit that way. Bit I will try the next time I have one in a B&M shop.

I dont smoke cigars, but i totally get the point of the 3 matches. In fact, i had a conversation with a colleague who explained to me the joy of certain aspects of cigars which are similar to the tenets of the 3 matches and there was no denying his argument.

I rather enjoy lighting a cigar that way.

Me too. Cedar sticks are nice with that method, too. But I don't use it often.

I typically use that method (more or less) with a butane lighter. It doesn't take as long, that's for sure--of course it is less elegant.

I am exactly the same as you Dean, If i have cedar sticks or long matches around I use them with this method, usually at a nice B&M Lounge that i frequent every once in awhile (which offers cedar sticks for lighting for their customers). I find it similar to the traditional wet shaving, the deliberate act of slowing down and forcing you to concentrate at the single task at hand, helps to bring you to that zen and relax state of mind that most of our wet shaving brothers experience.

But for the most part I use the same method but with a butane torch. I think it might be time to settle back into this. Time to go scour the net for some cedar strips. :wink2:

The B&M cigar store I frequent will give you cedar spills or cigar box liners if you ask. They actually prefer giving them out, they'd rather see it used than tossed.

I light mine that way occasionally, sometimes with a lighter, sometimes with kitchen matches. Usually with a Churchill size smoke, if I have two hours to smoke a cigar, what's 4 or 5 minutes to light it gonna hurt? Besides, it just feels like your "doing it right" when you light one that way. Also, it's a good way to impress upon serious smokers that you are not a noob without having to say it.
