Lemon fuilt very pretty but imposible to eat

Holy Moly folks, just finished a shave with my Wife's Lady Gillette star bust 1966.

Im shredded

Ive only nicked myself once with my EJ DE86, not so this 1966 weed whacker.

Didnt even use a Feather, just a Wilkie.

Darn close and very smoothe shave, maybe even tighter than the DE86, but the cost was very high.

So is the angle of a ladies shave that much steeper than the mens?

Mens? What razor do you mean, there are like 1,000's of men razors.

The head on the Lady Gillette is essentially a Super Speed.
Maybe the longer handle threw you off?
Is the guard bar straight and even on both sides?

It really just should shave like a Super Speed.

I agree with Phil. The shave results should be similar. The gap of most Super Speeds of the 60's are all almost identical which should yield same results from the Lady Gillette/Super Speed head designed razor.

The head is flatter than the Super Speed. It is the same head as the Slim (without the adjustable mechanism).

Now, if the guard bars and the heads are in proper position then length of the handle or center of gravity (balance) may be a culprit as to why it would handle differently from what you are accustomed to.

As far as aggressiveness, it should be a mild razor along the order of a Slim set to 3 to 4.

Cheers.

P.S. for those who don't know the reference given by the OP, here is the origin.

My money's on the longer handle, personally -- assuming that the razor's in proper working order, of course. If you're using a "tennis" grip on the razor handle then the extra length will give you leverage at the blade that you'd not be accustomed to.

Personally, I use a pinch grip very near the head of most of my razors, which pretty much rules that problem out straightaway. Maybe next time you should reach for the stars -- literally. :wink2:

The Super Speeds of the same time frame have almost identical domes and gaps as far as I could tell from a quick check on my collection.
Just a few years earlier, and the dome of the Super Speed is indeed taller.
The blade tray is different on the Super Speed as opposed to the Lady Gillette.
That's why the Lady Gillette appears so similar to the Slim, they both have blade trays that end abruptly, whereas the Super Speed has the ends bent downward.
But for all intents and purposes, the Lady Gillette is like a Super Speed with a longer handle.
I'm not sure what setting on a Slim would equate to the Lady Gillette, but at a similar gap setting, they would probably be virtually identical as well.

Phil, I would say a setting at 3 or 4 would equal it.

I have one from my mom and I used it once with terrible results as well, then I examined the razor more closely and noticed the safety bars were bent. My mom claims it would cut her up bad back in the day, I'm thinking she dropped it a few times. For now it is an heirloom that looks pretty in the shave cave to be used no more.

They can, and have been bent back to shape fairly easily.

Bend them back, that's an easy fix!

I tried out my wives blue lady and also didn't like the shave..Not because it was too harsh but instead was to mild...reminded me of a 40's SS, which is just a touch to mild and the long handle was so different it definitely threw me off.

Its a brand new rebuilt razor.

Its the same razor that is in GD's post above. (cept I bet his isn't a cheese grater)

Ill have to chalk it up to more razor than I can handle at this point.

Sure do look purdy tho
