Layering scents. need a little help please!

Hello all,

I'm very new to the wonderful world of fragrance but I've always loved to wear cologne and try different ones... I just never took the time to understand the scents I was wearing.

With that said, can you help me a little bit to understand how my shave cream/soap, aftershave splash/lotion all mix with my cologne?

I shave every morning and I usually use a sandalwood shave cream or soap (i.e. TOBS or AOS) followed by Proraso AS splash or SCS Sandalwood ASB. I then use Anthony Logistics oil control lotion, which is virtually unscented.

I do all this after showering but before breakfast. About 30 minutes later I'm ready to leave the house and I reach for my cologne for a couple of sprays in the palm and rub behind the ears.

Right now, I'm learning about different scents and ordering various samples from Lucky Scent and from The Perfume Court. So far, I'm in love with sandalwood notes and vetiver so I've got Creed, Montale, and a few others.

My question is whether or not my shaving products are going to affect the cologne? I do enjoy the scent of sandalwood when I'm shaving but I don't have to have it if it is going to negatively impact the overall presentation.

Any thoughts would really be appreciated. Thank you.

Shave soap/cream scents as well as aftershave scents are fleeting. They rarely last more than 5 minutes because the dissipate so quickly. The only exception is probably some of the bay rum AS which have some longevity.

I would not worry about mixing scents that collide with your EDT. Wear what you like and enjoy your day.

I could only agree with previous poster. Wear what you like.
Most of other categories that you named (AS ,soap etc.) are fleeting so...
Make sure that you are OK with branding yourself with "the guy that's smelling (nicely?)". There's a cost for a projection of an EDT, EDP, whatever. People are like that. And that's OK with people IMHO, are you OK with that? You know, it goes vice versa.

Austin & Lamb Root, thanks for your feedback. Good to know that I can use whatever I like in my shave routine without worrying about lingering scent. As for bay rum AS, I don't use it. I have selected my shave products with special attention to ingredients and performance (that work for me).

As for being the guy that smells nice, I've always been into colognes since I was a teenager and I'm almost 39 now! It's very hard for me to leave the house and not smell "nice". Even if I'm going camping or sailing, I like to wear something that's appropriate for the outing.... even a light splash of Adidas as I head to the beach. I guess over the years, wearing a cologne has become as natural to me as wearing antiperspirant or deodorant.

Now, for the million dollar question, it appears that The Perfume Court offers various sizes of most colognes... do they actually get the cologne in bulk and bottle it or do I have to worry about other particles making their way into the decants that I purchase from them? I just stumbled onto their site and I'm not sure if they're legit. Thanks.
