Lathes?

What to look for in a lathe for brush making? Brands, RMP, motor size, price. And what about knives/gouges, what do you use?

Mike - check out the Delta 46-460 - a *great* lathe in the midi/mini range

- variable speed control.
- reversible motor (great for sanding)
- indexing

These were all features that were big to me. I've been thrilled with mine. I had a Jet prior to this one and while it was a solid quality lathe, the Delta beats it - in my opinion!

Cheers,

Rob

P.S. tools - I have sooo many I've collected over time :) - Personally some of my best tools have been grabbed at antique stores. They don't make them like they used to and some of that old British steel is fantastic - not to mention can be had for a song if you're lucky and vigilant. Scrapers - round nose are frequently in my hands when making brushes. Skews - the least. Some great finishes can be made using a skew, but when they catch - pow! Time to change your shorts :)
