Lathering palmolive

So I broke my Palmolive out this morning, after reading how great it was. Sooo, my question is, how long does one have to swirl the bowl of soap before he can get enough lather for 2 passes? My god, I swirled, and swirled and swirled, with my omega pro boar, which absolutely destroys any other soap. But this Palmolive is something different. I had to go back to the dish for more after my first pads! This brush holds enough arko for 10 passes with 10 secs of swirling. Guess I need some advice.

You wet the tip of the stick and rub the wet brush's tips in a circular motion against it for about 20 seconds. Alternatively you can rub the stick across your face.

Yeah, I have mine squished into a bowl, like I do with an arko stick....does nobody else do this with Palmolive?

its a stick right? just rub it on you wet face against the grain that sets the beard up then face lather .. cant be beat.

I have mine grated into a bowl. I use Marco's method loading for about 120 to 140 swirls then take it to the bowl which gives me lather for about 6 or 7 passes after about a minute of whisking. (Not that I need 6 passes but I love to have a lot of lather.) I have hard water.

Are you sure you're talking about the Palmolive stick (Euro version). I could not squish it into anything, too hard.

This. It is how shave sticks are designed to be used. Wet the stick with hot water. Prep whiskers and soak brush. Rub soap on face like a kid with a crayon. Make lather on face with slightly damp, warm brush. Can't go wrong.

Some people have said the Palmolive stick is hard so has to be soaked to be used. If you've mashed it into a bowl it might still need soaking to soften it up.

I might take you a bit longer than other soaps but nothing like you are describing. IMO, palmolive lather builds rather easily but does not become as dense and creamy as say Tabac or Arko. The lather is plenty slick but not as protective as Tabac or Arko. I grated mine into a bowl before I learned to make lather out of a shave stick properly, but I cannot remember that it changed its properties a lot. Perhaps your bowl is too small to get efficient swirling or if you have just put the soap in there it might still be moving whilst you attempt to load. You might even try soaking the puck. Good luck!

Like you, I have grated my Palmolive sticks into a bowl. What I do is put warm water over the top of the soap while my brush soaks in water. When I am ready to shave, I dump off the water on the soap and start loading. The water hydrates and softens the soap and makes loading much easier. I usually load my brush for 30-45 sec.

I think you answered my question. I do have good lather than, I was thinking it would explode into an Arko'ish type lather......The reason I kept going back for more, was because it didnt provide much protection/cushiony feel to it. Plenty slick though. I thought I didnt have enough product honestly, but it appears I have it right. I have to have more cushion that this soap provides, its a shame, it leaves my skin feeling great, and I like the scent too. Oh well, time to break out the Cella from under the sink again. Im revisiting soaps now, cella is in the batters box currently.

Just got my Palmolive stick today. Followed the tutorial in the sticky in this forum. Wow, what an experience! Just rubbed the soap till I saw bubbles on the face then swirled until I got the thickest most amazing lather ever. Perfect, super protective and amazing. Try the tutorial. It works!

I agree with that observation. I can forget getting any soap on my face from Palmolive unless I soak the tip for ten to twenty minutes before use.

I have mine squished into one of those Ikea covered stainless steel thingys. (unlike Arko which you can just press in, I cut the Palmolive stick into slices like carrot slices and pressed it in). I use it the same as Arko and it works the same for me. The soap is harder for sure, but with the same method I get tons of lather in a bowl. I have a stick for travel that I use stick-wise and that works very cool too.

I have mine grated in a bowl, I squeeze my brush once and then charge the brush for a good 30-45 seconds. If you're not sure charge it for a full 60 seconds.

You might want to put some water on it first, especially if you store it uncovered.

I used it today (as a stick). I wet it first though as I hadn't used it in a while. Lather explosion. Used my normal Kent T4 brush which created enough lather to shave my face and head 4 or 5 times over!

I tried that a few years ago with an Edwin Jagger mug/bowl. But the soap remained uncovered and sometimes meant it dried out if I wasn't using it.

I could easily get away with using this soap my whole life (assuming it performs the same and doesn't get reformulated!) but there are other more exciting things to try - especially the soaps that come in their own elegant bowls or jars.
