Lamy Safari Nib check?

I know these images are huge, but I was wondering if someone familiar with the Lamy Safari EF could check these images and tell me if YOU think the nib is right?

First, I am sorry. I was told to take close-ups, and my phone kept focusing on everything around the pen (Lots of awesome shots of carpet, except for a blurry thing all over the place in front of the lens).

I just bought this, but I am finding that it writes really weird when going to the left, almost.. scraping or something. The place I bought it from said everything was normal, but the nib seems a bit .. bent (http://geredeth.com/pics/2013-01-19_02-48-56_749.jpg)

So I was just wondering if I could get some advice. I understand it isn't really going to be super possible without having the pen in your hands, but I figured I would throw this out there. And yes, that is on cheap paper, but it is what I had on hand.

I am definitely not a pen expert but I do have the exact same pen and holding mine up while I look at yours they look the same. Mine writes fine in all direction and it glides across the paper. If you feel it scraping then I would think it is bent even if you can't tell with the naked eye. Did anyone at the shop try to write with it? Also any chance you are left handed? My wife is and when she uses my 1.5 nib the ink woln't flow. just my .02

I have a couple of Safaris. In some of your photos, it looks like the nib is misaligned over the feed. I have never seen a left handed nib so I'm not sure if that is what is going on here or not.

Well, this isn't actually left handed. Sometimes though my writing goes from right to left, and that is when I notice bad scratchy. I will try to re-adjust the nib over the feed, see if that helps.

Hard to describe how it writes, it just feels off. Every once in a while I hit a spot and it feels like I am writing with something much thicker... hrm. Sort of like when shoveling, and using the tip of the shovel versus the side? It goes from a smooth almost to a scraping. I haven't hit the exact point of when it does it as the angles seem to very a lot. One second I will have perfect writing, and next no matter what I do it is scraping a bit.

The place I bought it from saw the images and said it is normal like this, but it just feels off. I don't understand how an EF from Lamy writes twice the line width of a Pilot Fine, even though I know pens from Asia write thinner lines.

To my knowledge Lamy doesn't make a left handed nib and I am sorry if I implied that they do. I just meant that the angles my wife's hand makes when writing left handed seems to mess witht he nib even though I have no issues when writing with it right handed.

I wonder if you contact Lamy USA if they will send you a replacement nib since the store you bought it from doesn't seem helpful. Picture 822 definitely looks like the nib has issues as it doesn't look symetrical.

That nibs seems to be misaligned.... purchase one new in gouletpens (no afil.) or jet pens (no afil.) price per nib , around $10 , search in Youtube how easy is to change the nib (adhesive tape).

The place I bought it from just asked me to send pictures, and they would have their 'experts investigate' which turned out to be them saying everything was fine. :p I didn't want to contact Lamy without some sort of information to describe my issue, but I can certainly bring in the symmetry issues. Saying it writes scraping-like might not be the best way to approach them, as it would reveal my ignorance and that never works out well for me with a vendor.

And no no, you didn't imply they made left handed nibs (left handers are wrong, booo). I don't have the pen with me so I can't try to re-adjust the feed at the moment, but I will try that.

I actually did purchase this at Jetpens, they are the ones who said it should be fine. I really wish I had brought it with me. >_<

Hey, the left side appears to be somewhat skewed, the tine looks to be slightly lower and pushed in, which could have happened in an accident or from pushing down too hard while the nib was at an angle. Hard to tell from the pics.

The nibs are cheap enough to replace, hopefully the seller will understand and make good. Was this purchased new?

Is this an issue with the nib, the feed, or is the nib just not seated properly on the feed?

It almost looks like it's slightly canted, but it also looks like there's a bit of a gap between the base of the nib and the "shelf" at the base of the feed.

It was purchased new. From what I can tell, it just seems to be how the nib writes, as that is the only time I can figure something is wrong. Jetpens told me I could deal with Lamy since they think it is okay, but as I sit here at work eating my PB&J for lunch, I think I might just buy a new nib as suggested after I try to adjust the nib tomorrow morning when I get back home, if that doesn't help.

Maybe it isn't getting the proper ink due to being off center. I can also check the tines and see if there is anything I can do, maybe I can just break the pen down and -try- to get pics of the various pieces for better inspection. :) I had actually just gotten the pen, inked it, and brought it to class to start note taking, and that is when I noticed the problem. I have tried writing with it a few more times before swapping to a different pen since I was falling behind in my notes.
When I tried it again is when I started realizing that the problem was when I went to the left (bad for my kanji). If I was careful and used it almost straight up and down it wrote like a champ, but if I brought any angle at all the pen scraped. It doesn't seem to happen at all angles, just.. most.

I went ahead and bought a new nib. It is on the way now. I think the tines are just messed up, so I gave up. I don't want to break it beyond use and I simply don't have the tools to get a good viewing angle. So another is on the way. :( Thanks for all the suggestions though.
