What's new

Kristo's High End Designers and Niche Special (part 6)

Bond No.9 New Haarlem (agree)
Gucci Guilty (haven't tried)
By Kilian Cruel Intensions (haven't tried)
Hermes Ambre Narguile (agree)
Chanel Allure Homme (haven't tried)
Hermes Terre d'Hermes (disagree*)

* I used the last of my Terre d'Hermes decant several months ago, but have not replaced it yet. This is one of my favorite from Hermes, but I have never felt that it was worth the price tag. I had won bid on ebay for 100ml NIB for $60, but the sale fell through. Hard to find decants of this at reasonable price since our B&B vendors do not carry it. It's been so long since I last wore this one perhaps my opinion of it has changed also.

I purchased my last decant of TdH from The Perfumed Court ($15/5ml - srs?). Like I said, hard to find a decant of this at a reasonable price. With TdH you are paying more for the brand than you are the juice. I am expecting a bottle of Yardley Citrus & Wood this week ($14/50ml) and if it's as good as the reviews then I may give up on TdH.

Terre d'Hermes Accords:
citrus, fresh spicy, woody, earthy, (green)

Yardley Citrus and Wood Accords:
woody, citrus, (leather), earthy, fresh spicy, (smoky)

Please enlighten me as to what about that guy you like and why you would put any stock in his reviews.
I just don't see it.
I must be missing something here.

Why would you not? Why are his reviews worth any less than the dozens of other people who do video reviews on youtube?

I'm always looking for a good reviewer but in the fragrance game I find it next to impossible.
Too much is subjective (as is anything in life I suppose).
I've posted before what I think of reviews and I'm trying to see what this guy has that might be worth watching.

Ah well, I'll just keep movin' on then.

Well He does have that going for him. True enough.

What's this guy's charm? Am I missing some deep insights buried under layers and layers of ironic citation? These are excruciating.

Yea, that was kinda' my point. I don't think his opinion on something like a fragrance is any less (or more) relevant than anyone else. Sometimes I think it is interesting though to see what someone else thinks of a fragrance I either love or hate. But as you said, sniffing fragrances has to be one of the more subjective things in this world. Everyone's sense of smell, and even more importantly, everyone's sense of what smells good is so, so different. I am interested in what a lot of people here suggest. I have gotten some really good suggestions from people here.....and some not so good ones. So I guess it balances out.

I like his honesty - but as with so much else in life, frags are highly subjective; one mans gold is another mans pile of shiit.......

BTW I love and enjoy and own New Harleem, Allure Homme, TDH EDT & PP - but I agree Gucci Guilty is a weak take on a designer frag.
Since Gucci I and II, Gucci has just been going one way - DOWNHILL and fast !!

Well said!

We all have our likes and dislikes. The problem is that "rave reviews" are a dime a dozen on youtube along with the 10 best this and the 20 top that. This is understandable considering that when somebody is excited about something they are often "too eager" to share it with everyone, but when they dislike something they usually don't want to waste their time on it and would just as soon forget about it. This is the reason I find negative reviews are far more valuable than the positive reviews. Kudos to Kristo for taking time out of his day to share with us honestly from his sack-o-dislikes.
