KOUROS: James Bond today?

Howdy y'all. How many folks like Kouros? I personally think that it might the ultimate James Bond scent. I know that some folks note that Flemming liked Floris # 89. I have that scent, and I do not think JB would have actually worn it. What think ye?

I've sampled it a couple of times and liked it. Don't know about it being a James Bond fragrance. I usually think of Bond wearing something from one of the English houses.

I was thinking of the eloquence of Kouros. It is so classic and sexy.

I like Kouros, but it's not a Bond scent to me.

I think of Floris 89, Eucris, Tabarome, Green Irish Tweed.

There is considerable debate, but I've seen people assert that both Eucris and Floris 89 are referenced in either books or film. Reportedly too, Ian Fleming was fond of Floris 89 and that may be how some have come to associate it with Bond.

There is an anecdote I've seen as well wherein supposedly in one the books a "Bond girl" complains to James that Englishmen don't wear fragrance to which he replies "we wash."

I personally do not feel it like a 'Bond' scent and sadly have not sampled yet Floris 89, Eucris, Tabarome or Green Irish Tweed.

Used to hate it back in the '80s, finally got my first bottle last month. A classic.

My mother loves it - she has a few EdT bottles pre-reformulation; if you smell that it just takes you to heaven...

I remember wearing Kouros in the late 80's. To me it smelled better in the bottle than my skin. I think it's too modern for the older bond characters. It's too old for the new bond character. I imagine the latest Bond character wearing an Aoud or one of Professorchaos' colognes.

My recollection is that the books reference no scents by name, but do reference an "Eau de Portugal" shampoo or hair tonic. Something like that. I the same is true for the movies.

It is supposedly true that Ian Fleming liked No. 89, but I do not recall how we supposed know that. If a miracle happened and I wrote a James Bond like book, would they say my main character was a promiscuous edt nerd? I I think my JB character would use K10. Or, if he were modern, one of the good Professor Chaos' scents that scare me!

I could see that, bois du portugal by creed and royal english leather are some other ones i could see being worn by him. Pierce Brosnan wore millesime imperial, Daniel Craig wears virgin island water. Acqua di Parma colonia in the eau de cologne form is another possibility.

Kouros is classic, bold, and very sexy. I think that might sound a little like Bond. What think ye?

I used to wear Kouros a lot in 1981-2 when it was first introduced. It was my favorite EdT at the time. Much time has passed since then...

Bond? Not really, in my opinion.

the Bond of the movies strayed from the true Bond of the books in that he touted many mainstream goodies as an advertising ploy, including an endless line of watches, clothes, shoes, and yeah, fragrances (more limited in that regard though).

It may or may not come as a surprise to you gentlemen, but the Bond of the books, particularly On Her Majesty's Secret Service, was a fan of Pinaud. Elixir was the name of the eau de quinine shampoo he preferred in that particular novel. It's one of a very few direct references to any of Bond's toiletries.

....

i can see craig wearing the sport version of kouros with his more casual clothes. also some stuff from tom ford. i read somewhere pierce also wears musc ravageur, which would seem appropriate since he is the most suave bond if a little feminine. sean can definitely wear what he wears off camera and on, which are jicky and habit rouge. i dunno about roger. he apparently wears jicky too and faberge products. i'd guess i'd put him in dunhill or trumpers.

Hey!

:yesnod:

Sad, you call yourselves fans. Okay, let me educate you.

In the book From Russia With Love, Tatiana asks 007 why Englishmen never ware cologne. His response?

We bathe.

In the book Diamonds are Forever, Bond describes the American Mafia thusly:
...mostly a lot of Italian bums with monogrammed shirts who spend the day eating spaghetti and meatballs and squirting scent over themselves.

Obviously, the movies strayed far from the literary Bond. However, this does not nullify facts from the movies. It is like a parallel universe or something. That being said, such items mentioned in the movies were mere sales adds.

It's easily my favorite scent if that says anything.
