King of Shaves--my critique

So I went on vacation and thought I would simplify my life. I saw this product at Walgreen's--King of Shaves (KOS from here on out) for sensitive skin--and saw FHM gave it an award and had seen this stuff praised on the net.

So I bring it and an electric Gillette Fusion and not the rest of my shaving gear.

KOS is a very tenacious gel. It has a tea scent which after a short novelty period to me is no longer very appealing. I really liked the first shave or two, it really stuck to the face and seemed kinda fun--but wait... At first, I shaved every day and did some post shave moisturizing with whatever I could find--maybe that didn't help that I was using unscented lotion.

By the end of the 9 day vacation, my face was screaming--I went to every other day shaving. My face was was dry, irritated and miserable. KOS just doesn't seem to really soften the beard or face--and I could feel that, it is just sticky and perhaps slippery. In the end, I hated it so much that somehwere in a dump in Upstate New York is a mostly full tube of KOS and also a Gilette Fusion (it may be an innocent victim but I was very unhappy).

Maybe this wasn't the fairest of test but frankly, the stuff performed so badly that I would suspect it would appeal to very few accustomed wet shavers.

Just for reference, I have experimented with a few products now, not nearly as many as some on this excellent forum, but I keep coming back to my heavy handle with Gillette Mach 3 Turbo blades, AOS Sandalwood cream (using the preshave if the mood strikes me), and aftershave balm.

Very interesting. I have never used the KOS products. Does the shave gel lather up at all or does it serve more like a mucous membrane?

Good review on the KOS. I had a bottle of this from before my "awakening," and decided to give it a shot as a pre-shave due to its viscuous nature.

As with every pre-shave I've tried, I can't say that I noticed a big difference in terms of efficiency, but it didn't make the shave worse.

And not the good kind of mucous, either!

In the words of Egon the Ghostbuster, "I'm fuzzy on the whole good bad thing." Nowhere is this more true than when discussing mucous which also can be correctly spelled mucus.

please forgive the direction this thread seems to be heading. I never really meant mucous to be prominently featured.

My apologies. I thought the word fit.
