Kind of bummed, pinaud clubman

IDK what it is, but I just picked up a bottle, and I'm totally NOT a fan :/ Maybe I'll see if someone will trade me for something else I might enjoy :blushing:

I tried it this morning and loved it - went very well with the Col. Conk Lime I was using. My wife thought it smelled nice as well.

I wasn't too crazy about it at first, but I really like it now. In fact, I bought some Pinaud Talc today. Smells great! :001_smile

I can't imagine life without Lilac Vegetal. Simply not worth living.

When I die, I think I'd like to have my body preserved in a cask of Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum.

While it's not in my regular rotation, when the mood strikes I use Eau De Quinine as an aftershave.

Much to my consternation, neither the bride or I was thrilled with Clubman, or for that matter, it's mainstream cousin, Brut.

I know that shouldn't bother me, but it does.

My Clubman Bay Rum is getting exclusive use for this fall season. My two other aftershaves AV Classic and Gillette Cool Wave have been removed from my Den area and stored away for later.

I like the scent once it's been allowed to air-out on my skin for a few minutes. It seems to burn far more intensely than any other aftershave that I've tried, but once the burn goes away my face feels tight and smooth. The rest of the day my face and neck feel natural and healthy.

I don't worry if other people don't like the scent, I like it and it's usually so faint no one else is able to smell it. That is once it's dried-out for a while I mean.

All in all I think Clubman Bay Rum is a quality splash that's cheap.

This is an interesting thread...

I love the old standard Pinaud products. Get's me some compliments too. However, each person's chemistry will cause it to smell alarmingly different on each person. A buddy of mine with whom I travel with on occasion made the off comment that he liked the way my stuff smelled compared to the high-tech trendy stuff he uses (his words, not mine). So, I picked him up a bottle Clubman. He came by the house wearing Clubman with no other scents, and it was awful on him. My Fiance went to far as to comment that she could tell it was Clubman he was wearing, but it just wasn't right. Had a sort of acrid smell to it. He said the same thing. So, I tossed him a rag and a towel - told him to go wash that stuff off, and splash on the bottle that I had. Same thing!

So, to each is own, and what may smell marvelous on one, on another may cause one's eyes to burn, and educe vomiting. For me, Bay Rums are not very flattering. I always detect a skunkiness to them...

it's not that it smelled bad on me (hell, I spilled like 3 drops on my finger while opening it, and then smelled it, I didn't try it on as an AS) and even then I could not STAND the smell...it smells annoying to me. Too strong, and even after drying and washing my hand 3x, I still did not like the scent...

I love Clubman. Great, inexpensive stuff.

I bought Clubman while in the US -- it's not sold in Australia. At first I thought it was a bit odd but I've grown to like it. Strangely Mrs Plinge does like it - and that's a good sign. She says it smells like baby powder (ie Johnson's Baby Powder as sold in Australia).

The Clubman is pretty strong - my second least favorite of the Pinaud juices (LV #1 least fave, forever) - I used Clubman Musk the other day - and it was with me for approx. 18 hours! Them's strong & lasting scents... talk about getting your money's worth.

The Vanilla is nice, the EdQuinine & EdPortugal are nice, the VI Bay Rum is quite good... and... best of all: Special Reserve.

mmm! Gotta go shave now - be back in bit....

I agree completely with both of you gents.... Love me some pinaud clubman...i tried drinking it once, I mean i wish i could drink it, i love it that much. I will take "old man stench" over "fruity teen smell i.e. axe " anyday

I've been wanting to try the Special Reserve.

As for Clubman - it was love at first smell. My shave den isn't complete without it.

_MementoMori_, I get this vibe from you, and it says "Special Reserve" all over it.

Try it. I just now splashed some on and suddenly instead of typing this post, it's being taken down by a scrivener in a tent at the siege of Malta.

Good stuff.

I'm with ya Rex. I can't stand its overcompensating scent. It says to splash freely all over the body too. Man... I just don't know about all that. A dime size on my wrist was enough to make me gag.

Don't worry Top, I am putting the Clubman to good use, and the Brut as well. Could I interest you in some Clubman Special Reserve?
