A recent SBAD flare up led to a late night decision to try a Kimson horn handle brush. My guess is that Kimson is the supplier for QED's recent brush addition, which has gotten some positive attention. I decided to order directly from Kimson to get a different color. I had initially tried, in vain, to talk to them about a custom brush. Response from this company is poor. After two attempts and some time waiting for a reply, I just ordered directly from their site. I got a confirmation of my order, but no other update for one week. I thought it would take months for my brush to finally arrive, but it's actually just two weeks after my order.
I love big brushes, so I ordered the 28mm. By my measurement, it is 30mm. This is a big freakin' brush!
A 28mm silvertip (more on that later) for $110 shipped? Check out the presentation--very impressive.
The pictures on Kimson's website don't help very much. I can't tell the difference between some of the handle colors. I wanted something with as much white as possible. It's a natural product, so I did not expect to get exactly what was in the picture, but I wish the selection process were better. Nonetheless, it's very beautiful.
The knot is flattened a little from sitting in the box. This is $110? Nice job, Kimson.
I expected a cut in piece in the bottom, as I've seen in a horn brush I used to have, which I also think was supplied by Kimson to the brush maker. But instead it is a solid piece. The bottom is not perfectly round, but I think it is exquisite.
Ok, ok, I know you want to see the density.
No kidding, guys, this is a well-packed brush. The loft is rather high at 60mm, yet it provides good backbone. This is a lot of badger! This brush is impressive as it is, but had the loft been 5mm lower, it would be outrageously good.
