Kermer CrOx

After a discussion with Marco I orders some Kremer CrOx to replace the stick I had been using. I was getting mediocre results so I usually went back to the hones when the edge needed work. So, I now have enough for the next 100 yrs. or but this stuff is great. Where the stick CrOx had almost no feel this is sort of soft and fluffy. It gives amazing edges. I've tried 4-5 razors all came back to the freshly honed feeling or better. Anyone else using this?

Baggie says "Kremer". This is the famed .3 micron Crox. I think there's a guy on the bay selling it mixed with beeswax and neatsfoot oil.

I got a bag thinking I would use it. Was so messy and staining (as was the red FeOx), a few months ago I got fed up with it and decided powders aren't worth the mess, plus my face didn't like the edge in the least. Now, I come right off the CNAT or Coticule, and dry the blade. If I can pop the hair from my daughter at that point, I know I'm all set. Strop strop strop and EZ hair cleaves are the result, along with a nice shave.

NET: I gots me a bag of the green that I don't use. I'm thinking of giving it to an artist friend, since it's supposed to be for paint pigment anyway. If he doesn't want it, to PIF-land it will go.

I expected a problem but found it pretty well behaved. It's of course a little messy when dressing the strop but otherwise not a problem. I'm using it on balsa, maybe a hanging strop would be worse?

I put the powder in a small tub (like a sample SC tub) and add a few drops of mineral oil. Stir with toothpick to get a smooth paste, adjusting oil to suit your tastes. I spead it with finger (taking care to not put too much on). It's easy to wash fingers and after the oil dries the CrOx stays put (no more dusting).

My (limited) experience tells me that CrOx powder works better on a flat, sturdy surface rather than on a hanging strop. Balsa seems the perfect solution for me.

I actually ordered 100 grams from kremer of both the iron oxide and chromium oxide. They ended up sending me a kilo of the green on accident (10x what I paid for). So I have enough for several life times. I mixed it with 90% rubbing alcohol and put it into a spray bottle. Goes on even and leaves no mess if you put your strop ( i use linnen) on a peice of old cardboard In the back yard. The only problem I've had is that the edge off the iron oxide shaves super close, but seems to pull the skin (not the hair), not painful just annoying. I've just stopped using the iron oxide side of the strop.

I take mine and mix it with 90% rubbing alcohol and put it in a squirt bottle. It works great for spraying it evenly on my linnen strop. Just put down a piece of cardboard first.
