What's new

Just saying hi!

First, I hate shaving! I currently shave once a month when I have to go in for my monthly drill (USNG). I have always been intrigued with traditional shaving, and my uncle still shaves with straight razors. I dont quite have the nerve for that yet, but the idea of shaving with a DE has sparked some interest! So I started doing research on DE razors and and found this community of traditional shaving to be quite alive and active! My first purchase was a 1954 Gillette Super Speed in great condition, another purchase quickly followed; the Merkur HD 34C, and I am already planning / budgeting my third; the fatboy. Which will probably be after I get my stuff in the mail and start shaving due to the cost of this guy. Based on peoples suggestions for first time shavers I bought the DE razor sampler pack, 50 blades (5 types x10). The pack includes the Feather, Personna Red, Shark, Astra, and Derby which seems like a good mix blades. I bought this stuff last week and still waiting for it to arrive..

Where is a good place to buy shavers? So far I am watching Etsy and Ebay.

I am looking forward to starting this hobby and being active here!

Welcome
I too was one of those that considered shaving one of those chores to do and be done with, obviously not any more.
+1 to the BST but also check local antique shops/malls and swap meets, for every 85$ brassed up *** Old Type I've found dozens of fairly priced classic Gillette iron (or brass as the case may be) and even a couple of deals that could be considered grand theft razor.
Stay clear of the 'Bay at least until you've got an idea of values and can ID razors (you'd be surprised how many Tech and Super Speed "Fat Boy's" there are) and I'm not too up on Etsy.

I have to say, the BST on B&B has been excellent to me for finding the vintage Gillette razors I have been looking for - I have acquired 5 from the BST. I would strongly recommend browsing the BST on a regular basis, the FB you're looking for is bound to show up soon

Welcome aboard the good ship B&B, we love newbies and all alike......go to B&B's Buy Sell Trade Shave mall for the best deals in town ( and the world ) http://badgerandblade.com/vb/forumdisplay.php/11-Shaving-Mall-Buy-Sell-Trade

Hi madmunki, welcome to B&B!

Congratulations on your decision to see what traditional wet-shaving is all about. It's a decision you will never regret!

When you get a chance, please head over to our Hall of Fame (located within the Shave Clinic) and tell us all a bit more about yourself. There are links in my signature to areas of B&B of special interest to beginning shavers--perhaps you might like to have a look at them as well. If you ever have questions or run into problems, don't hesitate to post them up. We're a welcoming and friendly group here, and there's always someone around to offer advice or lend a hand.

Enjoy your time here, happy shaving, and once again, WELCOME!!
