What's new

Just got my first slim adjustable.

I got it for $10 which from what I've read is good but not great. It's gold lacquer (or is it plaiting, not sure) and in what I think is really good condition. I'll post pics later.

But I want to get it cleaned up so I can shave with it before I go out tonight and I'm not sure if my methods will damage the lacquer as I've never cleaned gold lacquer before. I'm going to submerge in near boiling 4-1 parts water to vinegar. Then rigorous brushing with tooth brush. Is this ok? Do I need to do anything else to sterilize before use?

If it's gold, it's plating, and it's actually an Adjustable Aristocrat from the 60's. For $10, you got an outstanding deal -- congrats!

Don't boil it -- that could damage the plating. Clean it with Scrubbing Bubbles instead.

+1 on Scrubbing Bubbles and + 1 on Adjustable Aristocrat. Excellent Score!

Even if it was a regular Slim it, IMO, would be a fine deal. Regular Slims in good condition consistently go for $20+ on B/S/T....sounds like a really nice score! Congrats. Hope you love it! My DE razor experiences got much better when I started using a Slim.

Actually now that I think about it I got a rediculous deal b/c it's canadian currency!

I shaved with it yesterday for the first time. It was awesome! I have be using a Merkur classic, and this new razor just blowns it away. I found it a little tougher to get the blade angle just right b/c of the TTO style head, but I didn't get it. I love the weight on this razor it's perfect.

I started shaving yesterday on a 1 setting (just wanted to get a feel for the razor.) I didn't even feel the first pass but I could hear it (sound incredible.) So I turned it up for the second pass to a 3... still I didn't even feel it (I think this is the perfect setting for my neck.) but I kept it there didn't want to push it, as I still was having some blade angle issues. But this thing is just a ***** cat (appearantly my merkur is quite agressive) I can't wait for my next shave so I can see how high I can crank the setting.:tongue_sm

Looks like my old razor will be collecting dust for a while.

I'm not at home now but I'll post some pics for a proper identification when I get off work.
