Jicky?

I want to buy a bottle of Jicky EdT. The catch is, this is for my wife and I want to get the gold 3.1 oz refillable bottle. Anybody have any ideas where I can find it at something less than normal retail? Thanks!

Beautyencounter.com has it 3.1 refill for $99. Not sure what "normal retail" is. Parfums Raffy had it for $79 but are sold out. Might try Crystal Flacon or Basenotes periodically, but you probably know that. Perfumeoutlet.net had it for $57.99, but they are out too. Fragrancex shows it for less, and show a smaller size; but I haven't bought from that site.

Places like Saks have it at anywhere from $99 to $120. I've seen it for less at different sites, but they never have it in stock. I figured if I start now, I might be able to find something a little more reasonable by Christmas.

I have the EdP (never tried the EdT) and its not cheap. There was a fellow on BN who lives in Singapore and he sold some well below retail.

The EdP is indeed expensive. That's for a future wish list I think. I was hoping that the EdT might be an easier find, but even the ones that I've seen on eBay aren't any cheaper than stores. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet.

I've always wondered about claims about "differences" between EdP and EdT versions of a product. This is the kind of stuff that's always debated on BN. I actually like the idea of using less of a higher potency product. I know Jicky has been around a long time, but I sure had trouble finding it.

For me, the most important difference is $200! I assume that the EdT is just a more dilute version of the EdP, although I suppose that there could be different formulations too. When I think of EdP, I imagine Catherine Deneuve using the glass stopper to apply Chanel No. 5 to her neck and her...
Anyway, I'm going to price it today at Needless Markup and Saks--maybe they'll make me a deal!

With many fragrances the EdP contains different notes from the EdT. In the case of Habit Rouge, the EdP contains an agarwood (oud) note that is not in the EdT or EdC, this completely changes the feel of the scent. The EdT/EdC versions of HR are lighter whereas the EdP becomes thicker because of the agarwood. It's basically a different scent. The citrus notes are lighter, the vanilla slightly stronger and the powdery accord is...different.

I haven't tested the EdP of Jicky yet, just the EdT, but it's my understanding that it contains some different notes as well, or at least some of the existing notes are stronger and more prominent which give it a different feel.

In many cases the EdP isn't just a stronger version of the EdT, it's a stronger variation on a theme.

Also, Parfum de Toilette (basically the same as Eau de Parfum) versions of Jicky appear on ebay frequently, for some pretty good prices too. The difference between the EdP/PdT and the Parfum Extrait (the most expensive version in the tiny bottle) is as debated as the difference with the EdT.

My local Saks doesn't carry Guerlain and they couldn't figure out whether they could order it for me or not. Back to my lonely vigil...

I cannot imagine a reason for adding notes in different strengths of a scent. Wonder what the idea is (other than marketing)?

Well, I got tired of looking around and I picked up a bottle from Bloomindale's. I got the EdT in the gold cannister. We'll see how Mrs. Nid Hog likes it.

It's a great scent....though quite different than what I expected based on BN comments. It seems a lot of animalic scents tend to offend some folks and draw picturesque comments, everything from "buttcrack" to "stables". The one scent with the most vivid comments was Serge Luten Muscs Koublai Khan. Of course, these reviews often bear little or no resemblance to my own interpretation.

I got the Jicky that I ordered for my wife, only to find out that Bloomindale's just sent the refill bottle. In trying to correct the shipment, it turns out that Bloomindale's no longer has the refillable container, only the refill. Sent it back and reordered from Neiman Marcus. At least my wife is very excited about the scent.

And the package from Neiman Marcus arrived...

The gold metallic container is really quite nice. The neck unscrews and you can easily replace the refill. What's more, the same container accepts all of the classic Guerlain fragrances so Mrs. Nig Hog is very happy.

In the case of Jicky, I've found the EdP to be alot darker and less lasting. The EdT is perhaps more time consistent.

Both are really good though. Love Jicky. :)
