It's small, but give it a chance

I recently purchased a gillette travel tech about two weeks ago, and ive notciced a lot of guys on here wont give it a chance because it has such a small handle, and as such it is disregarded as a novelty item. I do a good bit of traveling, to see my girlfriend, and I have started bringing it in my travel kit in rotation with my Merkur 933cl, and I think it's a pretty awesome razor. I generally shave with a 40's tech, and one you get used to the short handle, this is very comparable in shave quality....just sticking up for what I think is an underestimated razor. Happy shaving :)

I think most people don't use a Travel Tech, as there is simply no valid reason for getting used to the short handle.

A regular Tech will fit nicely in an Altoids container, with some foam custom fit to protect it. I can't dream up any situation where I would be traveling, and so tight on space that I don't have room for an Altoids container!!

So in my opinion, there is no valid reason for ever needing to use a Travel Tech, which might explain why so many of them are found in NOS condition.

I purchased 1 of these as well, thinking it would be a big benefit when I traveled, but as michiganlover pointed out, there really is no need for something that small. I kept it as a novelty item, but will never actually use it as a shaver.

I have 2 of them that are in my rotation and get used maybe every 2 weeks or so. Great shavers, and different enough that they keep the shaving experience fresh, which is why all of us have so many razors in the first place, right?:001_cool:

I never chose to use it because as a 3 piece razor I'm not really saving any space using that over a regular tech or any other 3 piece.

I have a similar Lunawerk travel razor. The handle unscrews for storage, so it's a little longer than the travel Tech handle when assembled, but it's still just short enough to be a bit awkward. Otherwise it's a perfectly serviceable open comb razor, so I periodically swap in a longer handle and give it a go.

I think the biggest thing working against travel razors is that there are too many available. The unconscious mind tells us that they must somehow be inferior if there are so many available.

I got one as part of a larger auction lot, the one thing I'm thinking it might be really good at is touching up around the chin to finish up. Because of the short handle it might work really well for this. Perhaps some weekend experimentation is in order.
