It's amazing what a different blade can do for you

It's amazing what a blade change can do for your shave. I have worked my way through the WCS Everything sampler pack using one blade from each package and now going back through and using each package up.

The Astra's were great, loved them. Next the Bic's, I had on my spreadsheet that it gave me a good shave the first time, but blades 2 & 3 that I just shaved with were so terrible I am not trying 4 or 5.

I was so conscious about my face for the last few days because of what bad shaves those blades gave me. I had red bumps, nicks, and just a raw face. I felt terrible.

So I went back to the Iridiums...wow, I think this is my best shave so far. I had 2 days of growth (after having a crappy shave with the last Bic and letting my face recover for an extra day) it just mowed it down. No blood, no tugging, no pulling, and no burn when I put on my AV!

I'm saying thank goodness there are many choices of shaving related stuff so we can find exactly what works for us.

I like the Astra SP and Super Iridiums too. You might want to try the Gillette Super Thins, they feel similar, to me.

Althought technique is the biggest determinate of shave quality, a good blade can spell the difference between a mediocre shave and a good one.

I purchased the same WCS Everything sampler pack. So far, I have used:

Gillette 7 o'clock Sharp Edge: disliked
Astra Superior Platinum: liked
BIC Chrome Platinum: liked
Israeli Red Personna: disliked
Derby Extra: liked

I will be working my way through the sampler pack. So far my favorite is the Astra blades.

It made me realize the YMMV concept.

I just switched to Astra Superior Platinum blades after using Merkurs for 2+ years. Wow! After just 4 shaves I can't believe the difference in the shave quality. These blades are sharp and forgiving as I have sensitive skin. I agree with many of the posts that Merkurs are just an average blade at best not to mention the cost involved. Just made an order for 100 ASP earlier this week.

I have been using different blades for years, but have finally narrowed it down to the Astra as my everyday blade.
I really am impressed with the price and sharpness.
The Feather is sharper and I go to that when I haven't shaved in a couple of days because of its ability to cut through stubble like a laser but you pay twice as much.
I just ordered a 1000 Astras to get me through most of the decade.
