What's new

is there a standard size for pivot hole diameter?

I just got my first razor the other day, the blade is a Quikshave. The walk and talk is still real good, but down the line I do wanna throw some new scales on it. Here's the thing. I have 1/8 barrel folder pivot pins that use 2/56 screws that I would like to use. I do have the ability to get 3/32 stock and make my own barrel pivot using 0/80 screws (or a metric diameter if that's what it is). I wanna be different and use the screws to adjust the tension, and I like the look of countersunk torx button heads over peened pins.

So what size you think it is? I would love to get a ballpark before I take the plunge and take it all apart and then not be able to use what I want to. Oh, I have a gold monkey coming too. Any ideas on the pivot size for that one?

I think it is going to vary from razor to razor. The pivot hole maximum is going to be what the the blade was made with. Some razors don't have holes but slots to adjust the razor so that may even be more of a limitation. The largest I've seen razors able to use is a 1/32 but that may fluctuate between razor sizes where the tang may be able to hold a larger hole.

I guess as long as the tang has enough meat I could use needle laps to get to 3/32 or 1/8 and use what I want. Sure I could use a carbide spade but there is really no precision in a drilled hole compared to a lapped or reamed hole (from a folder perspective that is). Slots? Well that certainly changes things.

Maybe I just need to make my own.
