Irish Moos stick

This morning I used an Irish Moos stick for the first time.I got a very close shave out of it but I could not get a good lather from this stuff thus causing a little razor burn.
I have used the Palmolive stick before and I get good lather from it and I used the IM the same way as the Palmolive but I do not get a thick lather from IM.
The IM kind of looks like a burshless cream and if I add just a little too much wather it just thins out.

What am I doing wrong???

Hi Paul,

I also used IM stick today and got a great lather. Heres what I do.
Thoroughly wet face with warm water.
Dip the tip of the stick in warm water.
Rub the stick onto my face, against the grain of my beard, trying to get some soap on my entire beard area.
Take the brush out of the mug it is soaking in and give it a firm snap of the wrist to get most of the excess water out of it. Wetter than if I was going to load off of a puck, but not dripping at all.
Rub it on the soaped up areas, until a dry-ish paste starts to cover my entire beard.
Then I lightly dip the tips of the brush in some warm water, re-apply to my face and proceed to make the lather to the consistency I'm looking for.
Thick, slick and shiny, and enough left in the brush for 2 more passes.
I followed it up with a splash of the IM Aftershave. Clean and Green

The IM stick works well for me.
Try it again, it's a nice product.
Good Luck

Perhaps you have the worlds hardest water. Although I thought that IM was a mediocre soap, I will give it mad props for being insanely easy to lather most of the time. I would, personally, try using some distilled or filtered water while while cutting back a bit on the amount of water you use to start and adding more as you go. You might also try, if you aren't doing this already, letting the stick soak in water for a few minutes before you start.

Cheers!

Got a stick from a user here today. This scent is magnificent.

I also love the size of the stick--makes it much easier to apply than the palmolive, arko, erasmic, or speick sticks. This is a keeper!

Did you ever try Tabac? It lathers about the same though there is more water in the IM formula. So it shouldn't be that hard.

At the same time I think Palmolive is simply a better soap than Tabac and IM; better protection and a near perfect 'glide' of the blade. So you picked IMO a hard to beat soap as comparison.

I agree, the palmolive is better than Tabac in all aspects.
I believe the Irish Moos will be something that I will want to keep in my rotation once I get used it.

What's it smell like?

I stopped by a german store today and found that they carry just about everything in both the Tabac and Speick lines except for their shaving soaps in any form, and Speick smells AWESOME

Speick is great :thumbup1:

Just can't find enough love to keep it in the den/rotation.

Tabac is good too, but I like the scent of palmolive and IM better.

IM smells somewhat similar to palmolive than anything else, imo. It smells very very very "clean" and "green", if I can say that. It's like a deeper scented irish springs original.

Makes sense, I like the smell of Palmolive a lot.

No room in the rotation for Speick? everyone rants about that stuff...

I guess it's kinda like how I hate MWF :thumbdown

Great advice by 40boy. Sticks are just a matter of nailing it down right and loading enough soap on your face.

is IM offered in puck form?

No it's only in a stick but it is great if you mill it into a bowl and lather like a puck. I have it like that because I'm not a huge fan of sticks and only use it when I travel.

Ok,I did not even we the stick before applying to my face.I will give it another try tomorrow.

Thanks

Paul

Yes, make sure your face is wet before you start and dip the tip of the shaving stick in water often to keep the stick wet, it will help the soap going in your beard...

I follow this process as well, except I don't dip the stick into water, I just rub all over the beard area of my wet face, then use the brush still wet from its soaking, but not dripping.

I might need to add a little water to the tip of the brush, but I am getting wonderful results. The soap remains thick and soothing the entire shave, and I have enough left in the brush for 3 full passes.

Thank you WCS for getting some of this product here in the USA :thumbup1:

BTW, to me it does smell quite a bit like Tabac... not my most favorite scent, but it works.

Well it's like tabac for me.. it smells good.. it's just not what I want to shave with.. Great performer too, but it's just not exciting enough to want to shave with. MWF on the other hand is a pain to work up sometimes, but the after effect and scent are excellent so I keep it in my den. I'm the kinda guy than needs a good scent to use it. I cannot stand unscented products or products that smell bad/wouldn't be a smell that I would want on me.

Speick/Tabac smell great to the nose, but are less than exciting to shave with like IM is, but that's just me.

I cut a 1-inch button off the end of my IM stick, moistened the bottom, and stuck it into the center of a Corningware bowl. It's a little odd compared to a full-size soap round, but I find it easier to lather in that way. I would have milled the entire stick into the bowl, but I wanted to keep some in stick format.
