I was at a knife shop and was looking at their (very small) collection of razors - both double edge and straight, all German. I am considering taking the plunge into the world of straight shaving, so, I was curious to know a bit more...
They had a Henckels/Friodur razor that had some really nice scalloping on the back. Purely from an aesthetic perspective, it looked great. I took a look at it and asked about honing and if they were aware of any honemeisters in the area.
I was told that no one would be willing to sharpen for me because the blade would have my DNA on it.
I asked what size the razor was (I was planning to do some comparison shopping and wanted the specs) - I was told it didn't matter what size it is.
I asked if they ever get any other stock in, do they carry any razors that aren't German? (I had Thiers-Issard in mind) The response was that the only razors made now are made in Germany
Why can't this stuff be easier to find, locally??
