Ingrown hairs

I was wondering what is a good method for dealing with ingrown hairs. I seem to have a high pain tolerance so I can easily just pluck them and they seem to heal by the next day. But that doesn't seem to sound like a very safe method and I'm curious if it’s more damaging than good. should I look more into healing creams to use on an off shaving day? or can I just keep doing what I'm doing.

If you pluck out the ingrown hairs entirely, they will probably just get ingrown again when the hair starts to grown back underneath the skin. Best way to deal with ingrowns is to avoid getting them in the first place. Don't stretch your skin while shaving (unless you are using a straight razor) and don't shave against the grain if you are prone to ingrowns.

So what do you do if you already have them? do you have any tips

I used to have a big problem with ingrowns on neck area. I got a good tip to slow down and avoid XTG passes. I live with a slight stubble in a few problem areas and a lot less --almost none-- ingrowns. I also picked up and started using Anthony Logistics ingrown hair treatment. These 2 combined to really reduce my ingrowns.

Happy Shaves!

Search for posts under my name on B&B that have ingrown somewhere in the text to read lot of prattling on about ingrowns by me, and my probably more supersition that science ideas about what to do about them.

Once you get one, that seems as good a think to do as anything else. I do not see why it would be unsafe.

I never had much luck with any creams, etc., for ingrown hairs I already had.

This?

I'm interested because I had a haircut today, and the barber mentioned that I have some ingrowns on my neck. Oddly I hadn't noticed: they don't hurt or itch at all. I suspect that they came from last week's run of injector shaves. I know that I have some blade angle problems on the lower-right facet of my neck, and the injector was aggressive... I'm working on that blade angle. Anyway my hair doesn't curl until it's about 1-cm from the follicle, so maybe that saves me from bad problems with ingrown hairs.

Have you tried Mantic's witch-hazel treatment? I'm thinking about trying that - not for my own comfort, but to stem any more comments from that barber.

That is one of them. Basically I used to get really bad ingrown hairs and I had a beard for years, but I still, of course, got ingrown hairs on my neck, shaving with an electric razor.

But then I started shaving with a straight, doing a very thorouh prep and follow-up, but shaving against the grain or whatever I want, as close as I want, which is very close. Just as the guy that started me down this road said would happen, no ingrown hairs. I have had maybe two since I started shaving with a straight which seems amazing to me!
