My best friend in the world will be visiting the US next month, and is currently in India.
Besides the obvious shulton, what should I ask him to bring me for yummy shaving goodness?

Your suggestions may include Hardware and Software!!!:001_tt1:

I haven't tried a soap, but the creams are excellent, also. Like said above, as many as you can of all scents. There are several.

Kevin

I'd love to try one of these myself.

The creams are fully of lanoliny goodness.

The shaving rounds are really good. Barber shop intrigue scent. Lathers with the best. I had three...gave one to my son...another to a forum member. Wish I had a dozen or more.

Ok, so the Shulton and the Godrej Rounds for sure. I'll ask him to pack as much as he can stand.

Anything else?

I never looked at hardware while I was over there, any buys to be had on brushes etc?

1) 7 O'Clock Super Platinums Black (5+2free) tucks. 70 blades for a little under 8$. Get the whole card
2) 7 O'Clock Permasharp Green blades. (around5-6$ for 50 blades). Get the whole card
3) Godrej shaving creams have 30% free offer on the latest stock. (A dollar per tube, get all 3 scents)
4) Get Park Avenue shave creams (classic, premium plus, Musk). You will thank me for the lather if not the scent too much !
5) Indian Nivea shave creams are very very good, see if he can also lay hands on J.L. Morison cream too
6) Indian palmolives are not so great (except the lime)
7) If you fancy supermax blades, get either super stainless (not just stainless) and the super platinum. All other blades are junk
8) Gillette Sterling razor (plastic body with tech metal head)
9) Only place on earth to get Gillette Wilkinson blades. They are 4$ for a 100 and pretty decent...
10) Brushes - nothing decent in the bristle and badger area (none at all). Don't waste time
11) Old spice AS (Shulton) IS AVAILABLE in glass bottles, ask him to look hard.

If he is in Mumbai and you want really cheap feather blades and Omega boars, PM me - I know a place !

Don't ask him to waste time looking for hardware, none is available which you can compare to the Merkurs. Parkers are an export only item and not available in stores in India.

The advice on Godrej Shave Rounds is good, but know that they are different from the Godrej Shave Creams. Look up reviews in the soap section. None the less for a dollar u get 3 boxes of 50gms each. Will do no harm.

If he is in a super store he will get these all, else the easiest place to pick all of these up is to visit a number of local street corner pharmacy (medical) stores. Price is printed behind each product !

Now THAT'S a recommendation list. I appreciate the thought that went into this list. Thank you.
Though he'll be passing through Mumbai, the majority of his time will be in Kolkata, and that's his jump off point to Singapore for 2 weeks before his trip to the US.

Maybe I should ask for a list for Singapore??? hint hint

If its Singapore he must drop in at the 24x7 super mart. Its acres of shopping space called Mustafa. He will find quite a bit of things from all over Asia there for you I think. Best of luck and do tell the group what your prize catch is !

He was born in India, but his family migrated to Singapore when he about 10 years old. He knows Singapore very well, so maybe I'll just ask him about shaving gear in general and see what he comes up with. The last time I was over there I wasn't into wetshaving, alas!

Hi Phil, Any news on the lot you got ?

Folks, this list here is very helpful. Can you tell me, of the blades recommended here, which are considered to be the sharpest? I like Red IP and Feathers, and have been using Feathers exclusively recently. How would you say these compare to Feathers? Thanks.

In Singapore check out Mustafas. It is open 24/7. it also caries Godrej, Euro Palmolive and various brands of blades.

Hmm. This has me thinking of an "All India" shave.

Parker 91R
India green pack G7
Godrej Menthol

Pretty much the limit as far as agressiveness, sharpness and face freeeeeze.

The 7OC Black and Green are very sharp. +1 to the black.

To quote I am using the Merkur Gold Slant and a 7OC black and will be on my 12th shave today. I hand strop to keep the moisture off the edges. do not really know if stropping affects the sharpness and life, but is very useful to dry the blade.

However, unlike the feather the first 2 shaves from a black are terrifyingly close. Make a mistake or loiter around in the same area - sure shot recipe for red bumps or major irritation. I can add that the feather + anything is a softer and gentler shave for me, and the hair just sort of vaporizes off the face !!

However I find that the 7OC black last me more.

I'm not sure I understand - are you saying the shave is softer because the Feathers are less sharp, or that they are sharper, therefore hair vaporizes off the face? You also say that the Black is "terrifyingly close", implying that the Black may be sharper than Feather. Could you clarify?
