I'm not scared of no steekin' Feather...

Ok.... well maybe I was a little......... until I tried one!

I ordered 100 feather blades and they arrived earlier this week but I was hesitant to try one after all the 'You'll slice your head clean off if you're technique isn't perfect' comments. Today I loaded up the trusty Tech (I know, real men dial the adjutable up to 9 and load a feather) and gave 'em a whirl.

I loved it! I got very little irritation, one minor weeper by the adam's apple, and a DFS...and that was with my glasses on ( I have horrible eyesight and normally wear contacts while shaving). :thumbup1:

That's not to say it will work this well everyday, but for anyone out there who has been scared, don't be! Take your time, use no pressure and you won't lose any vital facial parts.

oh yeah, and just so I don't get sued......YMMV

There is lots of hype here on the board about the sharpness of the Feather but it turned out to be a paper tiger in my experience. Not only was it not as sharp as I presumed, but it didn't last long...three shaves max before it gave a crappy shave. I have since discovered other blades that are both sharper and smoother.

I probably got 5 shaves out of a feather, but that's because I do one-pass shaves only to avoid irritation and ingrowns. I think they get much better and smoother after the first shave. Definitely not as sharp or scary as everyone made them out to be. Too bad I discovered them after I bought 100 Crystal Israeli blades

Congrats on mastering the Feather!

I guess you guys had better technique than I did when I started out. My first few times with a Feather were awful and I chewed my face up. I swore them off but left the pack under the sink while I got good results with other blades.

With some hesitation, I tried them again. They were great! I've got one loaded at the moment and about 60 more on the way from a fellow member.

I tried my first today and it was amazing!!!

The Feather was by far the most comfortable blade I've tried. It's been the only blade that smoothly cut my hair. I would say my growth is extremely coarse. Every other blade has gotten caught up around my chin. The Feather mowed it down smoothly, and was comfortable on the neck. No nicks!! (yet)

Can you clarify which blades you found to be sharper than Feathers? The only ones I've tried in that category are Gillette 7'o clock blacks. And I agree with the longevity, I toss the Feathers after 2 shaves, but I do have a pretty tough and coarse beard.

The Feather is a very sharp blade but with the proper technique will give you a very smooth shave. The only blade that I've found on par with the Feather for sharpness is the Super Iridium. I do agree though that modern blades don't last very long. Three triple pass shaves is about it for me. I have fallen in love with vintage blades. Probably not as sharp as Feathers or Super Iridiums on the first shave but are just hitting their stride when you're throwing away your modern blade. They are good for around ten triple pass shaves.

I, too, was very apprehensive about trying a feather blade because of all the things I have read about them on here. Because of this, I think I was more careful and paid closer attention to what I was doing. The feathers got me the most comfortable shave yet, followed by Astras. I think that after I'm done with the rest of the blades in the sample pack, I'll probably order a good lot of them from dridiot or WCS.

Feather blades are just intolerant of bad technique. If your technique is fine, so will your shave.

+1 absolute dead on the money about the Feather. It needs to be handled with care. If you do, it is a fine shave. I still like the Astra platinum better, only because it is way cheaper, and my results are as good as I get with the Feather.

I started with a Feather. I had actually ordered the Feather blades right as I joined B&B. Everybody was talking how a newbie shouldn't start off with a Feather but I had already placed my order.

As it turned out, the Feathers are a pure delight to shave with. It is true that if you get sloppy, you'll pay the price. But I'm completely happy with the performance and longevity I get from the blades. I've also discovered Feathers work quite well my recently acquired Fat Boy. It's a very smooth shave.

I may try Derby blades next just to experience the differences.

Fatboy + Feather = a great combo.

Have been using this for a week now, really nice.

Please be careful with the Derby's.
Do some research, here on B&B are some useful posts.

I started with Derby blades and they were (and are) great.
Nowadays it seems that they are not as good anymore, or that there are different qualities. Better safe than sorry!
